Sorry to hear about the mother cat, now I'm bummed. The only shelter I've dealt with is in Yukon nav.jpg Thats where we got Indy. Its a great orginization and I'm sure its a no-kill shelter. Sorry I can't take in one of the kittens, but I'd probably need a shelter if I did. I'll ask around if anyone needs a pet. ...... Thanks Lauri and good luck
FYI, westsidesooner: feral cats are not pets. There may be hope for the kittens if they're able to be caught in a reasonable amount of time, but overall those cats will never be suitable for a home.

I should have used an emoticon with my "cats do not learn lessons..." comment.
My cats are all very intelligent and have learned a lot of lessons. When they want to, they understand simple word commands - all of the ones you named plus "treat" and "door". The most important lesson they've learned, of course, is how to manipulate us because we are suckers for the little fur balls!

I'm going to try and catch the babies on Friday. The MWC animal shelter said they could find a home for the tiny ones and they should be easier to domesticate. They look so lost without mom - she was still nursing. If I ever find out who killed Bitsy, I'm going to kick them in the stomach.

sweetdaisy they aren't mine, I was quoting someone else. My bad though becuse I didn't make that very clear in my post. I went back an edited it since you posted, and apologize for not reviewing my post. And your right, adult Feral cats, would never make a good pet. Theres a whole colony of them at Lake Overholser where we ride the bike trails. We call it Gato Island. Its really sad to see so many homelless and wild cats. Surprising that they form a colony too, being such independent animals.

There have been many little ones pass through my house since I last posted on this thread, and I ended up keeping a puppy from the last litter of Labradors, a black female I named Violet:

Also had a litter of two ruddy Abyssinian kittens -- a boy and a girl -- that ended up going to the same home about 2 months ago:

They are so cute, Pete! I'm surprised you didn't keep them all.

If you keep them all, you can't keep having them!

Seriously, I'm lucky in that all my pups and kittens are in high demand so I'm very picky about their new homes. These families treat all the babies like their own children for the most part and I always go to visit them in their new homes.

I just bred my yellow Lab so hopefully I'll have another beautiful litter of pups in early November.

Fortunately, I don't have room for any more critters so I can't even let myself think about keeping another one.

    those are beautiful animals Pete.
    I have two cats.
An all black shorthair named Guiness (after the beer).
An all white longhaired named Dobby (after the Harry Potter character).
And I have a dalmation named Morgan (after Captain Morgan, she has a black patch over her right eye).

We adopted a stray/neglected girl from the streets last summer - black lab/pit mix with white toes & chest. named her Bonneville -- we call her bonne, or bon bon or brat.
She is 55 lbs and a bundle of muscle! She has really recharged our lives! We take her walking/running every single day (or he does when I go to the gym) to try and wear her out so she is more docile and manageable.
We completely agree that most of the trouble that dogs get into is because they are not exercized enough! The Premier EZ Walk Harness from Petsmart is a real life (ARM) saver when I am holding the leash!

We adopted my husbands elderly mothers cat a few years ago - Annie. she is white and grey tabby mix and is used to being the only cat so she is not very happy in our house, but she just needs to get over it.

I had to put down my 14 year old siamese mix cat last month - his name was Whitey. He was diabetic, on insulin shots 2x per day for the past 8 years.

Sorry I misread what you were saying. I realize now you were referring to the kittens (from Lauri's post), not the adults.

I find feral cat colonies fascinating...it's amazing how well they get along and how accepting they are of newcomers (strays, babies, etc.). And while it's kind of sad they have no "home" per se, those cats at Overholser are well taken care of (it's a managed feral colony, so people feed and observe their health & well-being) and they are generally content animals.

Seriously Pete, I'm not sure those puppies and kittens could be any cuter! Thank you so much for posting their pictures.

    Violet is a darling!
