From a marketing perspective, Stampede has tons of potential.

This season's opener had a reference to the mayor's city wide diet. I figure some point late in the season will see a reference to the new team name as they discuss some body found in bricktown just an hour or so after a game.

(Brother....that's the way to get back on track.....call me a first grader! So that's okay? Since you agreed with Rover's post - you're calling ME the first grader. That's offensive, SCHOONER, I think I liked you better when you arrived at OKCTalk and posted a new thread for every team name. Thanks for the moderation - and again, welcome to the forum.) i was'nt singling out one person and was'nt taking sides. i was just voicing my opinion about how he worded what he said and what he said was the truth.but again thats my opinion. nothing more and again did did not call you a 1st grader. to many people care about how this nation looks at oklahoma and till they get off their carcases they wont know any better unless they see it for their selves

I'm not usually one to point out grammatical/spelling mistakes...we all make them when posting.

But this one was funny. I mean no disrespect.

    I could live with Stampede.

I could as well. I don't think of hick or backward with that. I think of Lion King, of elephants, of western, but I don't think it's too Okie stereotype at all.

Much better than any weather reference or oil reference or cowboys & indians reference.

Imagine the commentators calling out the OKLAHOMA CITY STAMPEDE! With the sound thundering hooves and the moving buffalo on the jumbo tron, players running out in their black and gold jerseys.

I've already grown attached to the notion of the OKC Stampede, which can only mean one thing ...

kiss of death, meet prospective team name
    prospect, kiss of death

    sorry prospect.

Stampede - Perfect - Love it.

I could care less what uninformed halfwits think of Oklahoma, those that I would care for our state to impress know what we're all about. This name embraces a part of our Heritage and we make it ours !

All of that works for either Stampede or Thunder. Those really are the best two names for this team IMO. The buffalo/gold&black combo is just too perfect.

Yeah because Colorado University hasn't used the black and gold with a buffalo...
