Work has started on the old Rainbow Records on the NW corner of 23rd and Classen. Looks like a building permit was pulling on Wednesday. Estimated construction cost is only $30,000 so I assume it is just to get the exterior up to date.
This is quickly starting to look like a full demo. Half of the building has been torn down. Maybe they are finding lots of problems and are just deciding to rebuild it?
Just a general question on this project and sort of pertains to the Classen Circle as well. When a developer gets into a project like this with the hopes of rehabbing the building and ends up having to pretty much demo parts of it, does anything else have to happen from a permitting/authority standpoint? Meaning, are they required to bring the city back out and reapply or do they just have to absorb the cost and build it back like it was when they first started work?
Looking back at the earlier images in the restoration plan on #72, it looks like only one wall was taken down that was not originally planned to be taken down. The roofs and the walls were already supposed to be taken down, with reusing the stone / bricks when rebuilding the new walls.
It was apparently one of 16 tobacco brands that distributed the famed T206 tobacco card set that included the iconic Honus Wagner that ranks among the most valuable cards of all time.
Additional tidbit: The T206 Honus Wagner card was only issued with the Piedmont 150, Sweet Caporal 150 Factory 25 and Sweet Caporal 150 Factory 30 backs.

Oh the good ol' days... Where heavy carcinogenics were marketed to children.
Did anyone get some pics of the old mural? I went by this morning to take photos and it has now been covered up.
Surely the billboard coming down is temporary. My guess is that sign makes some good money at that location.
Duplicate, sorry.

This building has been in the same state for months. I hope something is being down behind the scenes. It's in rough shape.
I can't imagine being in the elements, especially with spring winds, is good for it. Anyone know what's going on? It's like they got demo going and then just stopped before they did any real work here.
