MDot, the Ford Dealership location is not big enough for a convention center. That space is smaller than the Ford Center. I'd say the space should be used for another skyscraper with deep underground parking.

I have not been in DT OKC since last December and I can't wait to see what the Devon Tower looks like in person. Last time I saw it was from Frontier City last May. It sure is a lot taller now!
ZYX2, this was the first time I had seen it that close in person since April during the Arts Festival and I must say, as tall and as beautiful as it was then, it's even more now. You'll be very impressed when you do come down here and see it again for yourself, I promise. And it's about doubled in height since December so it'll be even more incredible for you.
I've said the same thing before. Watching a concert in the north part of the Myriad Gardens with Devon as the backdrop makes you feel like you are in the middle of NYC or Chicago. It's something that Oklahoma has never had to this extent...
Just walking through the Myriad in the afternoon when it was more so U/C then now (during the Arts Festival as I mentioned) was something I had never seen before, but I believe you when you say it feels more like NYC or Chicago when you were at the concert with Devon in the background. I hope I get the oppurtunity soon to do that and experience it for myself.
The Devon building does draw you into the downtown area as well as into the Myriad Gardens park. I too frequently find myself driving, biking, or walking as close to the Devon tower as possible almost like it is magnetic and whenever I get to the park looking up is almost like a dream type state of mind.
MDot, here is the last video that I did of a drive-by back in June. I don't know if I did another video after this one or not, but I did post a whole bunch of pictures last month or so. Pretend you are driving. :-)
Yes, the tower is a lot closer than shown in video. In that video, it was first time to do it on my Samsung Epic. Another video before that was with Samsung Exclaim. Anyway, I didn't zoom in to proper distance.
The very first video of the drive-by. We can see what our skyline used to be while cruising down on I-40.
These was done with Samsung Exclaim.
Thanks Thunder, you did really good for your first time using your Samsung Epic. And finally I got to get a real long look of Devon Tower from I-40. Woowoo!
And those videos of Downtown before Devon... That's the only way I can see the skyline without Devon cause now that it's there it's hard, nearly impossible, to imagine it not there.
If you joined after I posted a bunch of pictures, you can view them in the album.

The day pictures was about two months or so ago. Very high quality.
The night pictures was about a month ago through an app that I forgot to set the file quality for it.
Very nice pictures Thunder. I take it you enjoy taking pictures and videos?
Well it was only a matter of time before someone stopped me from doing video at St. Anthony Hospital. Security came and kicked me out. How many times have I gotten that shot now? So would-be videographers beware. They expect you to check in with Planning and Marketing on the 4th floor of the main building every time. Who has time for that when you have a narrow window of time to deal with? This will effect whether I go there in the future.
Are you talking about the vantage point on top of their parking garage is where you were kicked out? I've also been asked to not shoot from there, or even go up there just to get a view of the skyline. I don't even have anything remotely professional looking either. I wouldn't be too upset about it; you may have done nothing wrong, but on the flip-side, neither have they.
Screw them, William, you got lots of awesome videos anyway.
Architect2010, there are plenty of locations you can go around to do your part, so get out there and surprise us.
It all depends on how comfortable you are with confrontation. If a building is open to the public you can take all the pictures you want. At most, they can charge you with trespassing but they would have to call a police officer to do that and most likely when the police officer shows up he will simply ask you to leave. At that point you leave and problem solved. Or you can talk to whomever they said to talk to and let them know you want to take pictures of downtown. Chances are you are not the target of the inquiry, just a victim of circumstance. It is the same reason the TSA gropes 6 year old boys and 80 year old women. I’ll you decide which one you more closely resemble.
One time I asked them for permission and they took me inside to the security desk. Once in there they took me to some public affairs office and they told me no. Under no circumstances am I allowed to take pictures from their property because they already had a company on contract to do photos. I was nice to them and left but I have been back many times without asking. I usually make it quick and then leave.
you are correct just the facts! its called "tierany". so much for a "free country" heh?
