When we subsidized this behavior, we (society) will get more of this behavior. If you get your rewards and punishments correct the system will correct over time.

This is not a generational problem, it is our society's problem.

Yeah, the medium used is the most concerning thing about it. This isn't in any way indicative of any kind of organized/institutional racism. This is some sick weirdo playing with poo.

Hmm. I suppose I thought--after reading the the statements from the Mizzou football team, the Concerned Student 1950 organization, and the subsequently released list of demands--that the organized/institutional racism the students were protesting about was the lackadaisical response to this incident (and a few others similar to it, though a little more conventional in execution), not necessarily the incident itself.

That being said, I do think the medium used in this particular instance indicates either some mental problems or intently focused hate, and not passive institutional racism.

Inaction (or perceived substandard action) is only proof of inaction. And what do you do about a sh*t smear on a wall? You'd have to DNA test the sh*t, then mandate every suspect submit a DNA sample for comparison, in order to determine whose sh*t was used. And if none of your suspects matched, you have to make everybody submit a sample until you find a match. Short of that, all the school can do is say "that's not nice, somebody come out and admit to being Adolf Sh*tler, please."

Even if you DNA test it, you only know whose poop it was. That person might only be guilty of not flushing.

For some dumb reason, certain young people like drawing swastikas on bathroom walls. Never seen it in this medium. Maybe it was interpretive art. I don't know. But it seems like if you walk into any bar bathroom in America you'll see a swastika drawn on the stall wall, or scratched into the paint. I have to figure 99% of the folks who do it are just IRL trolls and idiots, rather than neo-nazis.

I've talked to a number of students and professors from Mizzou this week. The frustrations emanated from approaches and issues over time. The incidents that are in the media just represented the breaking point. These discussions are complex and there aren't easy answers, but a lot of the media coverage and narrative is incomplete. I know that I have no idea what it would be like being a black student at Mizzou. I have the privilege of never having had to deal with these issues, but I know they exist on every campus. I've heard a lot of frustrations from students of color from OU and OSU. I wish we could talk to each other and just start by listening...

I wonder if white students feel the same way at Langston?

That's a terrible argument, and an empty response. That post shows you don't want to have a discussion. I have a few white friends who went to Prairie View A&M and did experience any type of behavior towards them that you think happens at Langston.

Listen, racism still occurs today.... That's not a shock to anyone. Some places more than others, that will probably never change , we've all had some form of it at some point in our life, if you for one second think that there is not a bigger motive going on here then , you need to start digging into it a little deeper, I believe you already know though. Obama has been dividing Americans since he announced his campaign. Again it's all part of the plan , Divide and Conquer ,I'd say their doing a pretty good job.

Does that discussion involve calling anyone with a differing opinion a racist and ignoring them? That seems to happen pretty frequently when people have "talked to each other" lately.

I called specific posts that fit the definition of racism what they were. I never called any individual person a racist, I don't make those kinds of judgments and I try to avoid labels and stick to the topic. If I didn't do that then I apologize and I'll try to do better.

There's a big difference between calling an action racist and calling a person a racist. I do believe that it's important to listen to different perspectives, but those perspectives have to be grounded in some kind of evidence. Not all spaces are conducive to constructive dialogue though... Feel free to send me a message if anyone would like to discuss this via another format. Best.
