I don't mind cul-de-sacs... one thing I've heard is some of the neighborhoods have their streets laid out in a wavy and curvy pattern in order to make it harder for thieves to easily navigate. Of course, if you're going to commit a crime mind as well do it right and it would take but a few days to be able to drive through the area and get a feel for it.

City considers changing minimum lot size for new homes with septic systems

EDMOND — A recent City Council workshop focused on the minimum lot size for residential development served with a septic or aerobic sewer system, and provided with public water or private well water.

Assistant City Manager for Operations Jim Smith said the workshop could develop a consensus to enable city staff to draft an amendment to present to the City Council. Maintenance of the system chosen for future home lots is a subset of the discussion, he added.

“When you look at maintenance you have to look at enforcement as well as fines,” Smith said. City staff has found no other municipalities that have decided to become the backyard police of aerobic sewer systems, Smith said.

“It appears the way cities have handled that is to have a cushion in lot size,” Smith said.

In July, the Edmond Planning Commission accepted a request made by D&M Development LLC, for aerobic systems on 26,000-square-foot lots, proposed to be south of Waterloo Road, on the east side of Broadway.

Wayne Sadeghy submitted a PUD Master Plan for his development that states he proposes to build 220 lots with aerobic systems, said Bob Schiermeyer, city planner.

It's really going to take a change in leadership to fix this. I will also confirm the first phase of these apartments are in no way luxurious either. They over look a pond, that isn't luxury.

I'm on the fence on this one. I feel that commercial activity is finally starting to get rolling on this intersection, esp now that the road construction is wrapping up. With phase one done maybe they feel that those numbers will put them over the edge in order to get more commercial lined up. I would give it one more year. If nothing pops up, then let them build more apts. I think that piece of land could support a smaller movie theater too. I know kickingbird theaters got redid not too long ago but the quality is still poor and still feels old

Does anyone know if the apts are the original owners of the ones that were destroyed? Maybe since they took sooooo long to get rebuilt the city is sore at them. Who knows.

you can always live in Bethany if you want to be surrounded by apartments. As an Edmondite, I hope they put a ban on any new apartment complexes.

Going in right against Faircloud on Danforth and Coltrane

Zoning set for new senior living complex

EDMOND — A potential senior living complex offering a continuum of care from independent and assisted living to memory care has met some requirements by the Edmond City Council.

TCG Development requested the changes to property located north of Danforth, generally west of Coltrane, said Bob Schiermeyer, city planner. A brick fence will separate the property from the Faircloud addition to the north.

The land to the east is undeveloped open display commercial zoning. To the west is single family zoning.

Plans are for the facility to have 80 full-time employees with a $2 million annual payroll, said attorney Randel Shadid, representing TCG Development.

“The proposal is to provide for a planned unit development that provides multi-family, but it also allows for this commercial use,” Schiermeyer said. “So if in the event the multi-family doesn’t proceed on with the site plan, plat and building permit, then it would be used as a D-1 restricted commercial…,” Schiermeyer said.

    New addition to Oak Tree

New Oak Tree addition plat gains approval
    James Coburn
    The Edmond Sun

EDMOND — The Edmond Planning Commission approved the preliminary plat of an Oak Tree addition, block 123, located on the east side of Santa Fe, and one-half mile south of Waterloo Road.

The vote was 3-1 with Commission Chairman Barry Moore voting against the project. Moore said he does not believe it would be possible to build a new home on the lot.

Plans call for the addition to contain 15.51 acres and be completed with 21-single-family lots planned, said Bob Schiermeyer, city planner. There are drainage issues involved with the common area containing a creek beside this lot, he said.

“It is still being studied,” Schiermeyer said.

Bryan Coon with Huitt-Zollars said he would like to study lot 22 for constructing a home there based on the flood zone.

“It’s long and narrow. It’s probably 6,570-square feet,” Coon said. “It’s a very nice house, probably a multi-million dollar house.”

The creek is 20 feet at the property line to the top of its banks, he said.

Coon said he knows he must comply with city ordinances. He wants to study the flow of the creek.

“At least let it move forward in the preliminary stage and let me take some time to study it,” Coon said. “It’s probably a $300,000 or $400,000 lot.”

interesting. my folks live on oak forest road that dead ends into that creek. it is massive and why the road dead ends there in the first place. seems like a really small area when you take the creek into consideration for 21 home plats.

I think I know what you're talking about. When I get back home from class, I'll do a search on them.
