I like them. They have a Cane's sauce that you'll either love or hate. Only experienced them when I visited Norman, so they must be pushing for big expansion to open so many stores here in the near future.

Judging by the shiny metal awnings on the outer building they put up today...it looks like it will house at least two occupants. thinking either retail or a non drive thru fast foot restaurant.

It will hurt a bit, but a big part of Academy's draw is outdoor/camping/fishing/hunting. That's something Dick's is not as focused on. Dicks's will have more high end apparel, shoes and golf stuff, but won't touch Academy's outdoor selection.

I wouldn't count that out. The Dicks in Tulsa has a decent outdoor selection, not too much smaller than Academy, and the brands are nicer, especially with camping/hiking stuff.

Even with guns and other hunting equipment? Small boats? I think Dick's will appeal to more golfers (Academy will probably lose my business there) and people wanting higher end apparel, but Academy will get the hunting/fishing business still I would bet.

I went to the Dick's in Flower Mound which is outside of Denton Texas two weeks ago. I think the Dicks stores are cleaner and alot better then Academy. I also think Dicks may get the hunting/fishing/golf and other sports if the stores in OKC look anything like the store in Flower Mound on the inside.

They have the doors and windows in the North Penn store now. Looks like they will be finishing the outside pretty soon. as parking lot lights are going in. I would say they are shooting for an Oct/Early Nov opening date. I cant wait.

I saw them putting it up yesterday and it looked incredibly large. Like.. abnormally large for a storefront sign. It looked like it was going to span the whole front side.

It's a big sign. It says: DICK's sporting goods. (another contribution to the trafficclusterphuque near the intersection from hell). I'm still wondering about the "Mystery Building" in the parking lot . . . could it be . . . Cain's Chicken????!!!

Yes it is Cains. The "Coming Soon" sign went up over a month ago. I think this was discussed back in Post #44.

I saw the sign going east on I-44 and it almost didn't make it under Western. Like RadicalModerate said, it's huge.

There is still a mystery building on the Northern side of the lot. Looks to be two small retail shops. The Canes is on the south side and the frame work went up today. Here is pictures of the sign before and after it went up.

Dick's is looking great. I would bet a dollar they'll be open in time for Black Friday. Have any of you seen those commercials on TV, with a bunch of people telling you how they need different athletic gear and how they are going to wait, but they never mention any company at all? That HAS to be an ad for Dick's. It would not make sense any other way. I can hardly wait for this store to open. Academy is too far away for me to stop in regularly. I also bet that Hibbett Sports at Quail Springs is going to take a hit on this. I've never understood how that store stays in business.

They are opening November 2nd. They announced that at the OU/texas game on saturday. Also gave everyone at game a coupon valued at either 5, 20 or 100 dollars when you check out.

Also, yes the TV ads are for Dicks and so are the billboards.
