I thought the NBA did not allow team name changes.
I thought the NBA did not allow team name changes.
I really like the Oklahoma City Thunderbirds. It pays homage to our Native American and military history. Not to mention the merchandising would look really sweet if done right. I say we stay away from crimson/red, black and orange. We need completely neutral colors so OU and OSU fans won't feel alienated (yeah I'm sure some people would base their support on something as meaningless as team colors).
I really really hope democrats or republics don't make the supreme court try to decide the election.
I guess Mick the Mayor will get the contract for video/commercial production. He kept saying "you just don't get it". No Mick, we get it. When is his re-election?
It prolly will be Sonics, but the NBA doesn't disallow name changes... they just look down upon that. The Royals became the Kings and the Braves became the Clippers, so it can happen.
I like the Sonics name and the Sonic boom tests from back in the day make it work, not to mention it could be tied into Tinker AFB.
But if the name changed, I'm pushing hard for Thunderbirds. Ties into Indian Heritage and the 45th Infantry. Two things to be proud of for sure.
Dustbowl, were you against the City building 'The Brick'? This is very similiar.
...this shortest straw has been pulled for you
The name will change. Bennett already offered to leave the Sonics name in Seattle when he proposed the buyout last week.
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I rather like the Oklahoma City Sonics...although I'm not wild about Oklahoma City SuperSonics.
We can tie that in to Tinker, as JWil noted, and of course, there's Sonic, itself. Our mascot could be a giant Tater Tot!
Oklahoma City Boomers?
*doin' the happy dance*
It is good that this passed with a good margin, it shows that most of the city supports having a team. If the suburbs could have voted I would say that it would have passed with an even wider margin.
I think it would be good if the name was changed to something more uniquely Oklahoma. Like maybe the Twisters or the Boomers.
