Thanks, It is sad to see this building being torn down. I used to go there with my grandpa to buy batteries for the cars and have work done on them occasionally.

This old Sears building was supposed to go up for auction earlier this week. Any word on whether it actually sold?

Will this be freestanding or inside the Sears building?

Thanks, Pete! I figured that was the case, but the possibility had me wondering if they were going to finally do something with the old Sears building.

My understanding is that it will become storage.

it seemed to me that they are site prepping for at least three building adjacent to western. saw a few signs, one for a banc first, another one for alliance credit union, and another one unknown. i also saw great progress on what looks will be a corridor of shops along the old sears building's south facade. there's an area of approximately 3,000 SQF where foundation work is starting. it looks interesting that a lot of the old parking surface area can be transformed into something more useful and interesting and hopefully more green if they decide to plant a few trees around any potential new buildings.

The Sears building itself is being repurposed as a self-storage facility.

In addition to the old Sears being converted into a storage facility, the construction along Western is for a new Starbucks. Allegiance Credit Union will be in front of Vasa.

Between those two buildings is another parcel still for sale.

it'd be awesome if there could be some new retail built in front of the old sears now that it's a storage facility.

Indeed ! So many parts of south western are empty nowadays.
The new 7-11 is already an upgrade from the abandoned sears auto shop.

that's a lot of banks/credit unions... and i didn't realize that allegiance had a spinoff called 'alianza'... all of that indicates to me that banking institutions see growth opportunities among latin americans.
