Thread: The Haunted House

  1. Default Re: Haunted House

Yeah, would be nice if a quality chef jumped in and modernized the menu a little bit and left everything exactly the same. I hope that there is a succession plan in place. I would hate to lose the place at some point; it is a rare surviving link to OKC's past.

Why exactly would it be totally unexpected for Oklahoma?

The place has a very pre-20th century European feel to it in my opinion.

    Plu Pan,
Sorry, I'm old and senile and half blind and I don't see it. But I do have faith and if you saw it, it's there!

This reminds me, what was the name of the restaurant that was, I believe, off of Macarthur between Reno and 10th? IIRC it served German food. Is it still around?

It's a Sonic. Didn't used to be, but it is now.
I hear, tell they serve an Awesome CheeZ/Tuna Frenchee.
Like in no time, whatsoever, regarding the wait.

I am disturbed by the surface mounted conduit for the wiring.
At least they could have decorated it with flowers and images of wild rice and salmon.
Then enameled it, and sprayed it with some sort of clear coat to preserve the image.

I hear that the original owners are from Minnesota.
Maybe instead of "salmon" . . . the conduit to the past, present and future should include Walleye, instead?

    Traxx,
It was Keller in the Kastle and has been a couple of German restaurants since. I believe it's still a German restaurant, but don't quote me.

Yes Castle Falls is still very open... and it was a great experience when the wife and I went there for dinner on a date night about 2 months ago.

Sleepy Hollow/Haunted House is an easy mistake to make. Speaking of Sleepy Hollow, I guess they were one of the last places to do family style serving.

True. Now the building is gone and the sign will be coming down soon.

I first learned of Sleepy Hollow in the early 70's. They had 3 (three) items on
the menu. A steak, a filet and fried chicken. The fried chicken is still
legendary. I loved it. As far as the family style serving was concerned, I could
not have cared less. As with every restaurant I visit, the entree is of utmost
importance. Everything else is just fluff, i.e sides and anything else.

Personally, I wasn't impressed with the steaks at the Haunted House. Yes,
they were good but the wow factor isn't very high.

A close friend of mine, in the distant past, used to work for a Sewer Service Company. Ray's Sewer Service. He said that the worst things, ever, to clean out were restaurant grease traps. He put Sleepy Hollow at the top of the list in this regard.

Eating here right now. I'd never been here before, so I figured I should go before it closed down. Wonderful meal, and it has an incredible atmosphere. I really wish I hadn't waited so long to come to this place.

When is the last day? I need to get up there again. I've been dreading this day for years. Hoping the right person makes a move, but not holding my breath.

It's a great place for sure. Hopefully someone picks it up. It is truly unique for this city.
