    More from Steve's blog:

Plans are being unveiled now at the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library. A packed auditorium of business and civic leaders were in attendance as architects showed off plans for a 54-story glass tower. Devon Energy submitted the only response to a request for development proposals for the city-owned parcel across from the Myriad Gardens. Devon hopes to start construction by the third quarter of 2008.

The building floors will range from 25,000 to 28,000 square feet. The tower will appear to float in the reflecting pool that rings its base. Several glass enclosed atria spaces will be incorporated within the development. THe focal point of the space is a six-story glass rotunda, located in line with the Harvey Avenue access drive, which will serve as the primary pedestrian entrance for both Devon employees and the general public.

I think it looks great. It's a very sophisticated look.

I think there is a typo...I think the construction start date is third quarter 2009, not 2008.

54 floors with a huge atrium and some architectural elements at the top...

This may be close to 900 feet as opposed to Chase's 500.

Well I think they plan to start this year. Maybe he meant 4th Q 2008.

I hope no one is disappointed. Looks incredible.

I hope the glass from the rendering actually has that color palette, and that is not just reflection from the sun. Would be really cool to have some kind of subtle "design" element in the glass.

    Gerald Hine is talking now:

The developer flew in from London to make this presentation

“Over the last 50 years our firm has had the privledge of designing signature office buildings throughout the land.”

Such projects, he says, can enrich a the lives and cultural fabric of a community.

“Devon has assembled a world class team to assemble this project.”

“Pickard Chilton Architecture has redefined and enhanced skylines throughout the world.”

That is indeed a sophisticated look. Very proud of Devon for getting this right. This will provide such a beautiful and powerful focal point in our skyline. Stunning.

    John Pickard is speaking now:

“We’re about creating a state of the art headquarters. we’re about creating a home - a home for the men and women who make up the Devon family.”

Pickard says they’re trying to create a building that speaks to the culture of Devon. Pointed out Devon is committed to the community, and design needs to serve entire community.

Bad ass! Can't wait to see more detailed renderings!

Do we know the height yet? From the renderings I would guess 850 now.

I think the atrium, rotunda, reflecting pond and landscaping will be equally impressive and an amazing site from the Myriad Gardens.

The face of Oklahoma City will soon be forever changed and every skyline photo will now feature this awesome structure.

I sure hope it does signal the beginning of more buildings downtown, ala the Charlotte reference.

How much of the building does Devon anticipate occupying?

Any idea of an estimated completion date?

Based on the height of Chase and adjusting for viewing angle - this looks very very close to 1000'.

They are probably going to say that we are trying to one-up them by building the biggest in the state.

Devon anticipates occupying 100% of the building and is scheduled for completion in 2012.
