Thread: Tamashii Ramen

  1. Default Re: Tamashii Ramen

that's the best way I can describe ramen that OKC folks will be familiar with (and can readily access). Of course, they are totally different but think of the preparation and quality along similar lines as pho/vietnamese with Chinese noodle and japanese preparation/ingredients.

It's actually quite different in my opinion, other than just the noodles. Pho's broth is beef based most of the time. It is cooked using oxtail, various beef bones and many other ingredients, such as fish sauce. Some people make chicken pho, but it is not as common, and definitely not as delicious, imo. From what I understand, ramen broth is usually a pork or chicken based broth, that also includes soy sauce and miso. Like pho, it is also cooked by simmering bones, but pork is much more common. They are both delicious though, and I can't wait for this place to open. In the meantime, give kaiteki a try, the ramen food truck in town. It's pretty good stuff!

Tokyo serves ramen now too. I'm definitly not a ramen afficianado by any means but the bowl I had there was delicious.

they are different, that's why I emphasized ramen is "like" pho and this is the only way I know that OKC peoiple who dont know could relate as OKC has plenty of pho.

I didn't say they were the same, I said ramen is in the same vain as pho - fresh noodles (chinese egg/wheat vs. rice), filling broth based (miso or shoyu vs. beef bone), some meat and vegies, garnish. Just ramen is japanese and pho is vietnamese.

nice to hear that OKC has a ramen truck and Tokyo has it on the menu. give it a try, you wont be disappointed (if it is done right, and trust me, if it looks like top ramen then it is not right)

The end of March can't get here soon enough.... I've been craving ramen since I watched the first season of Mind of A Chef with David Chang..... Looked so good I wanted to hop on a plane to Japan to get some!

I guess I am going to have to give it a try. I have never had ramen, and I have never seen it on a menu. I have no reason, just have never had the opportunity to order it. Where else is it offered in OKC?

Only two places I know of currently are Tokyo and Kaiteki Ramen.... Oddly it's not on the menu at Tokyo but if you ask they have it. Kaiteki Ramen is a food truck so you will have to hunt them down.

Hopefully they are restoring the sidewalk? Perfect lawn for a patio too.

I walked that area extensively this weekend and the entire block needs some sidewalk and landscaping love.

They are redoing the sidewalks but doesn't look like they'll have any sort of patio:

Now that I look at the previous picture, I could have answered my own question. It looks like they had already spray painted the outline for the sidewalk.

Patio would be nice I suppose but if there is one place that probably isnt optimal for patio use, its a ramen restaurant.

They could always add one later if desired.

I guess I wish there was just something out front to make the building a little more inviting, whether it be a patio or awnings or something. Kinda sterile right now.

I rather like it. It's unassuming, but that also doesn't mean that we won't see a mural or the like designed for it.

You can almost count on awnings at some point as those windows face south and that small restaurant will heat up like a greenhouse.

Hopefully they plan to have more seating than that.
