I think they have been closed for a few months at least. Not surprised, that place seemed like it was holding on by a thread Pre Covid.
Local homa's last day is also today.
We sed to go to Fridays a lot. Were on the rewards program, knew a couple bar tenders. Then it slid and slid to finally no longer bearable. While COVID is closing a lot of good places that should remain open it's also weeding out some that the time had come for anyway.
Himalayas Aroma of India, most recently in Moore but previously doing business in Norman, has been closed for a month or two. There was a sign on the door that said they would reopen in a new location, but I haven’t been able to find anything on that. They were a solid restaurant having been open something like 13 years. I do hope they reopen one day soon.
I used to eat lunch there and it was good. I’ve been wondering if the buffet style restaurants will suffer disproportionately due to the virus and fears of sharing serving utensils etc.
Yeah I’ve got to think that has to be an impact. I wonder if these buffets could retool to bring back the old cafeteria style concept... or some sort of hybrid where the food is behind glass and there’s a server but it’s still one price. I’m sure the additional labor would be hard to figure out in the pricing.
I think one concept that might come back in some for is a variation on the old 40's/50's style automats. You had a prep kitchen build all manner of different foods, eg sandwiches, hot plates, desserts, soups, you name it, and the prepared food was put into one of dozens of automted vending slots. The buyer would come in, deposit the appropriate amount of money into the food window of choice, open the door, and take out their food and leave.
It seems to me that concept would be ideal under current circumstances. You could adapt the vending model to use contactless payment and have automated door opening/closing for food dispensing.
I noticed they demolished the Western Sizzlin building at I-240 and Penn recently.
Oh trust me....I know
Extended hours (M-F 11am-7pm) and a newly acquired liquor license I believe too. Only seven days between their closing and exciting/confusing Dec 11th Instagram post about them roaring back in January. Excited to check it out, plus I encourage other to check out Brielle's new space on Air Depot, very spacious with a buffet bar set up as well. Enough of my off-thread talk.
Is there any info out there on whether or not The Drake will resume operating?
When did "The Drake" close?
Saw on Facebook Ann's Chicken Fry on Rt 66 closed
Kind of sad to lose a restaurant like that, but their CFS had gone kinda downhill the last time we were there a few years (maybe 6-7) ago, so we hadn't gone since.
This is so sad. Yes, it had kind of gone down hill but I have been going there since I was a little kid. It had been my very rare keto cheat until Marchish. RIP Ann's Chicken Fry![]()
A ray of hope from the OKCTalk Facebook page:
