The only movie I didn't like with Cruise in it, and actually I didn't see it, was that one Knight & Day... or something like that.
thanks to this thread i'm now (unfortunately) aware that this exists... Top Gun 2 - IMDb

The market seems to think he's worth a premium.
He's #6 on the all-time box office list and he's still going strong.
I bet he's #1 within the next 5-10 years.

BTW, I worked on the Paramount lot for a few years and this was during the time Tom Cruise was doing all his films through that studio.
That lot was crawling with stars every day and if you worked there it was not only not a big deal, but the unspoken rule was that no one was to ever make a fuss. This was their workplace, after all.
But when Tom was on the lot there was always a buzz. People talked about it, made sure to get out of their office to see if he was around....
He was the only celebrity that had that type of impact on a group of people who were generally pretty indifferent about stardom. The only other person that came close was Harrison Ford, but even he doesn't have the same in-person magnetism.
Tom Cruise just radiates 'movie star'.
If you haven't seen Collateral, it's pretty darn fantastic.
It's Cruise as villain and he's excellent in it.
He was a surprisingly good singer in Rock of Ages.
Here are my Top 10 favorite Tom Cruise movies, in general order:
1. Risky Business
2. Minority Report
3. Collateral
4. Born on the 4th of July
5. War of the Worlds
6. Oblivion
7. A Few Good Men
8. Rain Man
9. Top Gun
10. Jerry Maguire
That's a pretty solid body of work.
i'd say 'a few good men' tops my list. i'd add the first 'mission impossible' and 'edge of tomorrow' somewhere in my top 10. -M
Harrison Ford will probably make a pretty big jump with the 3 new Star Wars movies coming out.
Edit: I liked Edge of Tomorrow. Not the most serious film, but a fantastic summer popcorn movie. I actually really liked Oblivion too.
If Cruise is in a movie, it's probably good. Will Smith used to be that way too, but he's had a bunch of clunkers lately.
Here's an interesting site. Apparently I'm not alone with my opinion except
here.
Differing opinions. Most agree that tc is a bad actor.

'Tom Cruise is distractingly bad'
I rate TC amongst Alan Alda and Don Johnson. In fact, I use Alda and Johnson,
and now TC, as the equivalent of the Mendoza Line in Baseball. As with Johnson
and Alda any role TC has ever had can be played by anyone else with a
modicum of acting experience and nobody would be the wiser.
I honestly and truly don't see the appreciation for TC. I seriously don't.
