I trust him. His signature is worth up to 75 counts of manslaughter (the capacity of the airplane he works on) if his actions were found to be negligent and result in the failure of a system that results in a crash or loss of life. In Europe some mechanics work 40 hour days and have a week off between days. 1 on and 6 off.

What would you think about your surgeon in the middle of the night working on minimal to no sleep? Could happen to any of us. Or taking your child in to Children's - odds are the residents taking care of him/her would have been up all night too.

Back in Virginia, Husband got up at 5:30 so he could get dressed and leave the house at 6:30. He'd drive about 4 miles to the train station. From there, it was just over an hour into DC, then he'd walk to his office. Daily commute, to and from our door, right at three hours, fifteen minutes.

    For years.

We were so happy to get back home to OKC.

Some of these beg the question "Why?" Is it a dream job but they're not willing to relocate due to family? Is the house paid off, so they don't want to move closer to work?

For me relocation wasn't an option because the job was contract, even though some contracts might be for years. It was better for me to travel during the week and provide a consistent home life for the wife and kids than it was to relocate everyone every 6 months to 2 years. For people that have long daily commutes, it is a combination of cheap suburban land prices, low fuel costs, and interstate highway access back to the city. Even the rural hinterland is easily reachable although with the jump in fuel prices a few years ago long automobile-based commutes took a hit.

My cousin went from Watonga to Tinker AFB (78 miles) for years and years.

Other people I know have done I-40 & MacArthur to north of Hammon (over 110) miles to do oil field work. Actually there are lots and lots of people right now in El Reno that stay in those hotels that drive to locations further out than Hammon for oil field work. They are exhausted enough from the oil field work then have to drive that?

And my ex used to strip at Night Trips. So from there to Hammon for a commute. Another stripper there used to commute on weekends from Wichita to OKC. She was a grade school teacher up there in Kansas. And lots of girls would go strip down in Dallas from OKC on weekends.

And a dealer at Lucky Star in Concho used to live west of Sayre and they commuted it four times a week.

No, we just need commuter rail. More lanes will just result in more cars/more pollution.

huh, well I agree we need commuter rail, but the highway should also be widened.

A guy I work with drives in here to N.Okc from Pawnee every morning. Another one comes from Chickasha. One from El Reno, two from Guthrie, two from Shawnee, one from Cashion and four from Mustang.

Was on a plane from DFW to San Juan, Puerto Rico going on a cruise. Sat next to a man from California who told me he's was making his trip to work on a cruise ship. Was on 2 weeks then off 2 weeks, worked on mechanical systems.
