Yes, because they filtrate their water on the lazy river, which is a way better idea than swimming in the gunk that the Bricktown Canal is. Can't believe I posting in this thread.

To the OP, do you honestly think San Antonio has said, "hey, let's let people swim in our canal, that would be awesome!". No, I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, it's good to think outside of the box but I'm not a supporter of this one.

No reason I can see to chase away the fish from the canal. Plenty of other places folks can swim. Of course, I'm not positive there are still fish in the canal, but it's not been an unusual situation in the past.

I think you guys are looking at this thru too narrow of a viewpoint. A full conversion to a full time pool.

What would the cost be to do it for a weekend over the summer. Drain it, power wash and rinse it, add some kind of temporary filtration and circulation system.

Make a block party out of it for the weekend during our hellishly hot summer?

    What would that cost?

I don't think the ducks are gonna know the difference but I wish you best of luck.

Also, you'd have to cut flow from the fake fountains along the route unless you wanna clean all the piping in those systems too. It would take an incredible amount of time to sterilize the whole canal for human use which means turning it into one large pee pool, but I'll take that any day over 7 different venereal diseases.

Run a fast current through it and let them tube from one end to the other, or make the water taxis jet boats.

While we are at it, let's just turn the Myriad gardens lake into a swimming area, and then the Memorial into a wading area. Who cares what they were designed for. Let's think outside the box.

The sarcasm of the original post, and I assume the OP was attempting to be sarcastic and/or funny, has me rolling on the floor. Can't believe those of you that are taking this way too literally and probably getting upset. Have some fun!

-by the way, I think a public pool with a lazy river and a few slides (i.e. Pelican Bay in Edmond) would be perfect for the Boathouse District! That plus the Santa Monica Ferris Wheel and maybe a few other amusement rides (carousel, scrambler, maybe even a small roller coaster) and we would have a booming Boathouse District that would be impossible to ignore and turn away from! Just my thoughts...

I never got upset but I certainly did not see any sarcasm in the original post. It may not have been a totally serious proposal but I don't think it was "tongue in cheek" or "sarcastic" at all.

Forget swimming pool. Let's make the canal into a rowing training course. Those rowers think they're so great rowing in a straight line? Let's see how they do with the twists and turns of our canal.

BTW, I applaud the out of the box thinking but I believe this is a horrible idea. I can just hear surrounding metroplexes such as DFW and KC making fun of us for our hick, community bathing ditch.

They would have to cut the oars to fit through some of the sections. Anyway many rowing races do have turns, since only the army core of engineers would build a ridgedly strait river. Kayaking it may be doable if they can get around the taxis

Not to many people want to watch rowers. Surf board riding squirrels would be a good draw. Especially if you could wager on them.

I support this idea...but only if we draw the water from Canton.
