I figured as much. Just a weird case of timing. Obviously you did a far superior job, but I don't even have to say that LOL. I didn't now 12,500 people worked at the OHC.

I didn't go to the door to have a further look, but it is clear that it is being utilized ... for administrative offices I'd guess. The north side of the building (I didn't take a picture) is beautifully landscaped.
Here is a cropped view of the photo from a distance but focusing on Moon ... same photo as the 1st one under the caption, "Eye Institute," in the 1st post in this thread. It better shows the north part of the building, south of the hospital.

I work for OUHSC. MY office is in the old Moon Jr High Building. It is called the OUHSC Service Center building. It houses administrative offices such as Human Resources and Benefits, Payroll, Financial Services, Bursar's Office, part of IT and the Parking Office and Site Support (maintenance of the buildings), all which serves the U. of Oklahoma HSC. We don't support the hospitals. Just the colleges. We do support the clinics such as Family Services Clinic etc.. I've been here for almost 20 yrs and it has changed so much over the time.
I love that area - used to work nearby. I was at the Medical Examiner's Office when I was in town in July and was most impressed with all the new construction and how well it appeared to be maintained.
Thanks, TownHero!
Not sure if anybody else is but i get so excited driving down I-40 seeing all the cranes in the medical district.... and soon there will be some for the devon building.... cranes all over the place!
Yes, cranes are definitely a good thing to see in your city. And its also a sign of density.
They're working on the atrium of the Pediatric Building. I think it's going to be pretty cool.
Yeah the Children's building atrium is supposed to be really cool. They are taking forever to finish it though.

Here's a pic of what the new entrance will look like. Will kinda look like a big slide! And the large building on the left is the new Children's Physicians Building which is now open.
Here's a link to a video of what that new atrium will look like inside and out:

Thanks for that, Patrick.

I'm more excited about the LEED research building with the wind turbines.
The most exciting thing about the Pediatric building is that it's not the old building, which was an embarrassment for our city and state, I thought. The new one is clean and attractive, and I think the interior of the atrium will be nice, although it's still a hospital, and nice is usually a relative word. The clinics are very attractive, though, for clinics in general.
Wow, lots of impressive things happening in OKC. Hopefully health reform plans coming out of DC wont derail any of this.
Something to remember is that Childrens Hospital...as well as Presby Tower...are privately owned by HCA Inc, not the State of Oklahoma. HCA also owns Edmond Medical Center, and a couple of surgical centers in OKC. A lot of folks think that OU Medical Center is owned by the state.
-Chris-
Well, yes and no. If you want to get down the the nitty gritty, the only thing HCA really owns is Presbyterian Tower. Everett Tower, i.e., the New Children's Hospital, the old children's hospital, the new OU Children's Physician's Building, and practically everything else down there is still owned by the state, on paper that is. Really it's all controlled though under a complex partnership formed by the University Hospitals Authority and Trust, which is a 50 year agreement that united the state, HCA, and the University of Oklahoma. The trust essentially operates everything. HCA operates clinical operations at the hospitals, regardless of who owns them, with input and approval from the trust. So who owns what at this point is really moot point since it's all under the authority of the partnership.
If the partnership weren't renewed though in 50 years, or the partnership fell apart, ownership of the facilities would go back to their previous owners.
Edmond Medical Center, on the other hand, is completely and fully owned by HCA.
To finish out the sequel to Oklahoma Rising, I decided that some of the photos I took of the Health Sciences Center area were a little stale so I went back this afternoon to get some updates. Here they are. Click any 510 px wide image for a 1024 px wide view.

Awesome pics again Doug. There's something disconcerting about the bizarre vertical beams along the facade of the OMRF Tower, almost as if the architects hadn't heard of the invention known as the curtain wall. I at least hope it's covered up..
OMRF will have the DNA shaped wind turbines right?
Thnkas. The pics look good. Fantastic architectural style and not gloomy non-interesting boxes.
