Don't forget about our iconic Sonic!

    (Can't find any old signs...)

Don't forget about our good ole McDonald's!

We still have a sign similar to that somewhere in OKC. I can't remember the exact location, but I do see it once in a while when I just happen to drive by.

I did go out today and photograph a few signs, including the Deep-Rock sign. You can see them on my blog: iconoklahoma

I'm still working on the others. Keep suggesting them, thanks.
Deep Rock was Kerr McGee before they became K-Ms.

But the Sonic sign is the eyesore that the project is attempting to get away from. Correct?

Between Noble and Slaughterville (old 77) there is a collector of old signs and he has a "Huge" barn with so many old signs posted on it that you ought to go and check it out.....Then, you can eat at Kendall's in Noble for some of the best chicken fried steak you have ever eaten.....or, you can have Breakfast (in Noble) at Tiffany's. Ham steak (size of the plate) two eggs, hash browns and Biscuite (home made & the size of a softball) with Coffee....Usually around $6.00 and change............you can't eat it all.....But the Ham is wonderful.....Just thought Prunepicker would like to know about that place....

Lots of stories and lots of rumors but, the sign is the project of Mr. Don Fox. Probably one of the most savvy grocerymen in this area. the store was originally named "Honest Johns" the home of Giant Values. Didn't work there so he moved his operation to S.W. 29th and Portland on the Railroad Spur. He began what was for a long time The Big Giant Warehouse. Some people called it the Big Green Warehouse so he kept it that color until he closed last year....Mr. Fox is still alive and kicking......

Check with Don Moore the owner of Don's Alley in Del City. Years ago they had a sign that was Fred Flintstonesrunning with a plate of hamburgers.

saw a sign today that used to be seen all over Oklahoma. not sure if it is the type you are looking for. they were posted on fences around properties that were owned by a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association. Have to go back out that way later in the week and will take a photo if you would like.

Thanks for the info Generals 64.

Rondvu, I heard that Don's Drive In sign may be out at his farm. I'll have to ask him next time I see him. Thanks for reminding me.

papaOU, take one if you can, or give me the address and I will check it out when I am in the area.

    Thanks all.

As I said before, That building and that sign was owned by Don Fox who also owned Big Giant Warehouse.....The building IS located on S.W. 29th just east of Portland. Mr. Fox closed last year.....Talley's might have been a business owned by Truman Talley who did own GFF in Moore....Mr. Grandfather lived directly across the street from the Giant Sign for many years. Big giant Warehouse building is still there and is still painted Green.....Yes, Gary,Fred, Jim, Tim and Tom Fox are the names of Don's boys....

To Me, Dairy Boy was better than Dairy Queen. The lady that owned the Dairy Boy in Lexington is just too old....She wants out is the only reason she is selling it.
