Thread: CE Page Airport

In the Planning Commission meeting where this first annexation was approved, it was stated that OKC has missed out on opportunities by not having a contiguous 1,000 acre site for development.

They also said the airport would continue to operate.

I'm trying to imagine what operations need 1,000+ contiguous acres outside of military bases.... How many such sites exist in the US?

That would be for like an entire car manufacturing operation from raw components to finished car.

    ^

The gigafactory in Texas took 2,500 acres.

The Hyndai plant in Texas took 3,000 acres.

Even Reserve 577 south of Crossroads is 640 acres.

I'd imagine Hobby Lobby is over 1,000 acres at this point.

    That's a great point.

I just did a rough measurement on Google Earth and it shows about 1,200 acres.

The annexation makes a lot of sense. It is potentially a huge source of tax revenue for the city.

The behind closed doors unreported nature of it means it's real.

The loud stuff like Panasonic never comes to fruition.

Semiconductor maybe. We have the water needed, airport plus I40

It doesn't have to mean we are going after a high-profile manufacturer.

Given our location in the center of the country, interstate access in all directions, and the fact that most consumer goods come into the U.S. through the port of L.A. then head east on I-10 or I-40, OKC will continue to get big distribution centers.

I've driven east from L.A. on I-40 numerous times and on the last trip I simply couldn't believe the number of trucks heading in that direction. Almost 40% of ALL imports into the U.S. come in through the port of L.A. and a huge percentage of that is trucked to points east.

For the same reason, we would be a good candidate for assembly plants rather than manufacturing.

Put a rail spur system tying into the existing line on the north side of I-40, and you have a tri-modal shipping hub. Maybe close enough to tie into Catoosa via rail economically? (I have no idea, just spit-balling ideas)

I've been thinking the same thing. It could become a scaled down version of the Alliance multi-port.

That entire Canadian County area is primed for industrial but the land needs to have utilities installed to compete with the big Hoover economic vacuum to our south.

This mega-site continues to advance, as more money is being allocated.

As a reminder, the City has stated the airport will continue to operate as they feel like it is an asset to attracting manufacturers.

I'm hoping its some kind of major aviation manufacturing facility. Maybe another plant for Spirit/Boeing since they apparently need to spread things out a bit more these days. That would be the dream at least. Hopefully it's not just a distribution facility or something that could have gone anywhere else.

Given what Boeing is currently facing there is a 0 and i mean absolutely 0% chance of that happening.

Given the runways and other airport infrastructure, if there were aerospace manufacturing interested in the location, it seems more likely personal to business sized planes than large commercial jets. Plus there is probably more land on south of side of Will Rodgers the airport/city already owns than what they seem to be acquiring near CE Page, which would probably be more economical to build Spirit/Boeing sized aircraft give it's existing infrastructure. Plus like a decade ago Boeing sold off a ton of existing manufacturing buildings collocated with Spirit's existing major facility in Wichita they saw no need for on the horizon (the scale was something like larger than all of Spirit's manufacturing facilities).

The part the city wants to Annex, is it currently part of El Reno or Yukon or it is simply county land that doesn't belong to a city yet?

It looks to be unincorporated. El Reno's closest boarder is a couple of miles away and north of I-40. Yukon's borders west of Frisco are all north of I-40.
