Thread: Ned's Starlite Lounge

Have these guys had an ownership or management change? Finally made it in there and it was...not what I expected. Was thinking RJ's supper club vibe, was more of a Wicked Piston meets Sophabella's vibe (both of which are long gone). Had drinks and apps at the bar. Are they going for more of a dive bar feel?

The vibe is really strange. We have ordered food to go and it was very good.

The ownership is the same, Ned Shadid and his son Ned Jr. They have been catering for 40 years.

I like the space and food a great deal.

They often have live music on weekend nights.

We had Ned's cater my work's Thanksgiving lunch and the food was OUTSTANDING. It's actually probably ruined my real Thanksgiving because I don't see my meal topping theirs.

I graduated high school with Ned Sr. and consider him a friend.

I organize our class reunions and Ned has catered several with up to 400 people, and he does an excellent job. He used to operate the former Homebuilders event center near I-44 and Grand before it was sold to Chesapeake; it's now owned by MidFirst.

Ned's Catering has a great reputation. I know he used to do the catering for OSU football suites.

My high school class has several prominent restaurateurs: Ned Shadid, Amy Rollins (owns/runs Castle Falls), Randy Kamp (owns/runs Kamp's), Ed Lynn (owns/runs several local Buffalo Wild Wings), and Kurt Shewmaker (area director for Good Egg Dining). The food is always great at our reunions!

    No.

Ed only has the one on NW Expressway and then a bunch in smaller towns across the state.

There is another franchisee that has the other OKC locations, including the proposed new concept store at 164th & Portland.

At the end of the day, all BWW are owned by a corporate entity, currently it is Inspire out of Georgia, was previously part of Yum. It's all the same stuff, so at least you know what you are getting, if you like that kind of thing.

So are they running their catering business out of Starlite Lounge? That might explain some stuff. Large scale catering vs intimate club vibe are very different choices.

Not sure what you are trying to get at. Ned’s has a great atmosphere and very good food. They also have a great catering business. One doesn’t affect the other.

Judging by the parking lot most nights there are lots of people who do love it.

This is the equivalent of the Yelp! reviews that say "Great food, good service, go there!" WHY did you regret it? Details matter...

Had a few beers at the bar. The bartender was prepping for cocktail service. She seemed annoyed when we asked for another round. We took advantage of the appetizer special, the chips and queso. The chips were pretty good but those two small bowls of queso were really low grade, it's as if I could actually taste the metal can that they were poured from. There were plenty of regulars, they seemed to have a good time. Based on that experience I won't get to the point of becoming a regular. I really wanted this place to be better than it was.

I can assure you they don't make queso by pouring it out of a metal can. And it doesn't seem like a place you might fit in, so, I hope you find your place.

Everybody doesn't like everything, so I get it. But Ned and Jr are quality people with a quality attitude and product.

I really like their chicken fried steak and I don't know what their secret is with mashed potatoes, but they are fantastic.

    Burgers are good as well.

I fit in almost everywhere, I am extremely malleable and forgiving. I didn't like my time spent at Kong's. Maybe I was at Ned's at an "off night". Either way, if you're in the service industry you probably want to know if someone had a less than comfortable experience at your establishment.

Can't speak on the restaurant, but I'm very impressed by Ned's Catering. Top notch in every way.

Just saw thier post on Instagram, they are shutting down permanenty effecting immediately. This is what they posted as the caption on their IG post:

Unfortunately, this is happening frequently in our industry and we are next in line. Ned’s Starlite Lounge will be closing effective immediately. Over the past five years we have had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best employees, some of the best patrons, and have been a part of some of the best celebrations! We thank our wonderful friends & employees (who over the years have become family) and vendors because without these people our business was not possible! Our love and friendship goes out toward everyone that supported us, whether daily, weekly, or yearly you helped support our small business and our family. We want to thank every last one of you all for giving us that amazing experience!

Sad stuff to see them close. I wonder what the reason is for?

I went to Ned's at least once or twice a week. The crowd had dwindled this year and I rarely saw anyone actually eating there. Drinking, yes, but not much going on regarding food. It had really just turned into a very nice dive bar, IMHO.

I didn't catch the name, but it looks like there's a 'coming soon' sign for a new business here.
