I live about 500 feet from where they are being built. If they are built nice and maintained, no one will care. If they turn to crap in 5 years then I won't be happy... but I can't imagine them not being pricey and nice.
If you are talking about the Enclave, they will be rebuilt...
Yeah, because over sized houses are being built all over town right next door to apartment complexes. I really don't see what makes someone an elitist because they don't want apartments built next to their neighborhood. Its a fact that crime is higher in and around apartment complexes.
You are kidding yourself if you think Bethany has always been a dump. It most definitely is now, but it was once a VERY nice area. Now because of all of the apartments (which once upon a time were nice) and section 8 housing, the area has really gone down hill. PC West is now considered an "inner city" school. I guarantee the blight of Bethany wasn't brought on by the "over sized" houses in Brownsville, Western Oaks, etc..
If you are looking for another area as an example of what apartments can do, check out NW Expressway/MacArthur. Once a great area of town.
Do you really want to pretend that there's no correlation between the typical resident of Section 8 housing and poor quality schools? The race baiting is cheap unless you're going to argue that being of a particular racial background means one can't get by without public housing... and who is the racist now?
Apartments are NOT good for a neighborhood! I live in CC, am not elitist and still do not want the apartments. Fact is, they are a transient population who will not care about where they live like a homeowner. Higher crime is possible. Tho would not mind more senior apts, not thrilled about the proposed apts. Used to live in an upscale neighborhood in socal with apts right down the street. My husband and I vowed to never purchase a home near an apartment complex again. Just our luck, the yr after we move in, there is a big uproar about just that. And I feel this way after living in apartments for most of my adult life! Homeowner since 2002, renter 1990-2001.
Well, they have quite a bit of the land cleared off now, pretty sad to see all of the trees taken out. I feel for the people that own homes right next to the site, but if it were me, I would have sold the minute it was proposed.
It is sad that they could not preserve some of those trees. Many big cities including Dallas, where I reside, make a big effort to preserve and keep trees for new development. It seems like they could build around at least "some" of those trees but then again, OKC has a long way to go on being forward thinking in "this" area. OKC needs to plant more trees everywhere including more live oaks, which keep their leaves during the winter.
