The building permit applications have been filed for HTeaO (immediately south of Panda Express) and the retail building immediately to the south of that, which will contain Five Guys and a couple of spaces for tenants yet to be identified.
Work has started at the north end of the northwest corner of this project, in the area of Taco Casa.
As I am reading this, on the west side of May Avenue, across from Target and going north to south, it will be (existing) Whataburger, (existing) Jack In The Box, new Taco Casa and other retail/restaurant?
I guess there is some sort of building code requirement but that seems like an excessive amount of parking.
thanks for the new illustration of the Panda Express/Five Guys area. I didn't fully understand the new layout with Five Guys, etc until now.
Is something in the works on the old church site?
Oh, sorry I had the Taco Casa and the Panda Express parts confused in my mind and thought that was all the development on the south end.
On the NW corner of 50th & May -- site of the old Presbyterian church -- work is moving along.
The center building is well under construction and Starbucks will be taking the northern half.
Thanks for the update, Pete!
What a spectacular waste of that corner. Bunch of middling fast food or coffee places. I wish there was some forethought and creativity in this development. Or some housing with this.
What a nice addition to that area!
That’s how I feel about this whole development.
You're not the only one. Holy crappy strip mall string of crap Batman.
You sure sound like a pleasure to be around.
I don't care for mediocrity strip centers either, but not every corner in the city needs to be a multi-level mixed retail and housing development. Besides, right down the road is going to be one of the largest in the city. To me, i'm just happy that there will be new buildings -- cookie cutter as they may be -- and as a result be nicer than what was there before. I'm glad they were able to revamp some of the original building there close to Aldi and wish the would've been able to do the same across the street, but nonetheless the area already looks better than it was.
This is exactly what I meant. Some people wouldn't be happy unless it was a multi-use infill, high-rise, arena of some kind or God knows what. I live in Mayfair West, and I'm thrilled that they're developing that lot into something simple, decent and new. With so much eyesore lots littered around OKC, just be happy and chill out Dudes (not you MagzOK).
The lack of ability to recognize nuance is frustrating. I’m not pointing to any particular poster, but to the internet in general. This corner does not have to be a multi-level mixed use masterpiece or some grand palace of urban design. Just building these same shops and restaurants in a more or less architecturally consistent fashion with some modern design and a few pedestrian-friendly touches would have been more than sufficient for most of us that are disappointed in what this strip has become.
