Let's please stop posting about Houston and stay on topic. Thanks.
This might turn out to be the place that many thought Core to Shore could have been. C2S is obviously not going to be much like the 2006 (?) "plan" and the Wheeler District guided by Blair might turn out to be the place that gets may people to abandon suburbia. The connections to the River trails is huge and when the Central Park is complete it will be a nice walk or bike ride to downtown.
The plan was not something that was expected to take ten years, it was not even expecting the items it described to be builds as conceived, it was looking at the kind of things that would/will be needed/desired at least twenty/thirty/fifty years out. While it will no doubt draw some from the suburbs, abandon is a bit strong a word for any effect it might have.
If the Wheeler district can get out ahead of C2S and have success, then C2S will follow suit. If the city just holds onto the C2S land until 2020 - 2025 and lets Blair and the Humphrey's get some important pieces built or under construction and a pipeline of solid development proposals that follows a promising archetype, then the city has something to point to and say "That!" when they let out RFP's.
No reason that C2S can't be a world-class area when it's all said and done.
It would be awesome if they released some conceptual district plans for Wheeler by the end of the year.
Stapleton is a much bigger project set on an entirely different demographic. Wheeler certainly has the potential to have a great effect on nearby parts of town. If it becomes highly successful, watch organic redevelopment of neighboring neighborhoods as well as the one around Wheeler Park itself.
Ever since we first dammed up the river I've been wondering when development was going to start. maybe this is it?

So cool they are doing it in Capitol Hill.
I love this project already.
They sent this over; more details on the charette:
Had to be Rap for this kind of negative reaction
Some more noise to add to the conversation: Foster the people playing there 10/2/2014. According to pollstar.com, they are not playing any shows in Texas, Kansas, Arkansas or Louisiana although they are playing Columbia, MO which would be closer for some Kansas/Arkansas folk and Las Cruces, NM which would be be closer for some Texans.
Wow. Foster the People is pretty big deal.
if people were complaining of noise I wonder how the "mystic Sanctuary" EDM festival will go over. especially since EDM festivals usually start late and play into the wee hours at times. I am just curious as to what hours they will end up playing for that festival.
per their website, they will be in Austin as well.
Cuarto - I think it is a pretty big deal for the OKC concert (Oct 2) as they seem to be hitting limited locales. BTW, they will be here in Seattle for Bumbershoot.
Oklahoma City, the RENAISSANCE CITY!
