Whoever Twitter boy is is wrong. Our mayor, Tulsa mayor, State Health Department, OKC County Health Dept., Tulsa County Health Department, Associated Press, KOCO and literally every other credible source has said our testing has not gone up and is not related to the increase.

Perhaps it is spiking a bit now because, like my wife, people are hearing from folks who tested positive. But it was not increased testing that anything remotely to do with this explosion in new cases. For the record, "spike" is out of my vocabulary for what we are seeing, as this is not a bump.

GREAT! Problem solved! Everyone go out without a mask and get people sick! Woohoo! You probably won't die and you probably won't need a ventilator, so everything is way cool right now! Rock on, baby! Covid Party tonight!

https://www.wpr.org/wausau-area-rock...-amid-pandemic I'm sure there are many on this board planning on going.

Actually for the first time in awhile the epidemiology report posted this afternoon lists a little over 36,000 test results from last week. About 9,000 more than the week before. But that doesn’t change the higher positivity percentage being the real issue.

I just saw a post on my FB about the fair being cancelled. About half of the replies were about how this sucks since the data is all made up. This is the problem with people.

Went to Homeland on 18th today, and was pretty pleasantly surprised - about 80% mask-wearing and only 2-3 people didn't follow the arrows (one of them was a hipster guy in sandals and some kind of wrap-skirt, but at least he had a mask on). We're still in deep ****, though, make no mistake.

Unfortunately, mask wearing has become political because of TRUMP, so I would expect high mask usage in the most progressive zip code in the state.

Totally anecdotal, but Crest on 164th/Santa Fe also had higher mask usage than what I've seen in the last month or so. And the goal isn't to get 100% of folks wearing masks, rather just the vast majority of folks. If we can hit 75-80%, that's enough to put a serious dent into the R0 number

It’s in the upper 90s, IIRC, so it’s more like a few percentage points. I’m not going to wear a mask.

Whine and gripe all you want but the comparison made was ridiculous and that is my point. Dodge away.

If you’re worried about it then don’t go out. There are businesses like Costco that have mandatory mask rules. Have fun shopping there. You won’t see me so I won’t be a danger to you.

I can’t wait until the inevitable debate comes where the vaccine is live and we start seeing actions taken to force people to get it. I’ll be back to respond then.

I'm sure the hospitals would love people to clean up covid rooms and have someone save on PPE. JS

Ooooh, are you on the "Bill Gates is microchipping us!!!" bandwagon too?

    ...
How do you know you're not a danger to him? You could have it without knowing it and be contagious, somebody else in a store next to you in a bar or wherever you hang out probably isn't wearing a mask either, they catch it, and then they end up standing next to Dan at a grocery store and not wearing a mask and then because Dan might not be wearing an N95 mask, just a surgical one, he ends up catching it, then giving it to his family and they all die. THAT'S HOW CONTAGIOUS VIRAL SPREAD WORKS - IT'S SCIENCE!

You’re making tons of assumptions that Dan and his family will die when 90+ percent of those that get it won’t even know they had it.

And what percentage will have long term lung effects or other long term issues with the virus. There many stores of people out there that have lost their taste and smell. some have permanent lung damage. Do you have those numbers I would love to see them.

Funny you make a point much about this virus is unknown but not before you claim it would be significantly hindered by face masks because science knows so much about it.

It’s odd, as someone who appreciates science, for the first time, to part ways with many who claim to be for science acting like sheep and being told I am a science denier because I think the mask thing is complete and utter BS when so little is known about this virus. Then when I’m skeptical about the vaccine those like poliguy have no argument to make other than the “oh you’re a bill gates conspiracy theorists” because they have nothing else to say. It’s cute.

Not knowing everything about this specific coronavirus does not invalidate basic science of viral spread and the use of masks to inhibit that spread. Mask science WRT viral spread has had years of research via influenza, and now there are multiple studies and metastudies that show that it works with this virus too. I was denying masks worked that well because of some of the cons (not fitting tightly, people wearing them incorrectly, etc.), but it's been pretty much proven by now that even with those deficiencies, masks are better than nothing in helping prevent the virus spread. Research is out there, google it.

More studies are coming out showing that asymptomatic people ended up with long term effects they didn’t initially notice.

I’d love to see what articles you’ve read that claim masks are pointless in this thing. Since you claim to be a man of science I’m sure you’ve got an ample abundance of peer reviewed studies that show the ineffectiveness of masks. I ask because it seems that the existing literature shows that masks, even cloth ones, are effective:

As a fellow man of science, I’m always willing to reevaluate conclusions based on new evidence, especially in a situation with a novel virus, so I’d love to see the studies you’re basing you’re conclusions off of so I can reevaluate if need be

Okay “man of science” since you too appreciate science then why are you putting words in my mouth and claiming I said things I didn’t say? That isn’t very ‘science like.’ I never said I had articles claiming masks are pointless and I never said “I’m a man of science” only that I appreciate and respect the consensus though this must be a first.

I have no doubt that N95 type masks would work but no way it becomes reasonable to require everyone to wear them. Yes I’ve seen the articles claiming anything over your face works. Stay home if you’re that scared. Am I worried about the virus? Hell yes. I’ve seen videos of people on respirators and that looks scary but I won’t live my life in fear.

The more you and those like Dan claim I’m causing deaths makes me not want to wear a mask even more and not because I don’t care it’s because you are so full of sh!t it’s comical. Have fun holding your nose up and acting like you are making a difference by wearing masks.

Meanwhile I’ll keep wondering why mass gatherings for protests(tens of thousands packed) recently were perfectly fine and aren’t being a suspect to the rising COVID cases and you can pretend it’s people like me who walk into a grocery store without a mask around less then 50 people.

I have googled it and I can’t understand how a virus so small is affected by cotton masks. I also don’t get that the human breath shown by thermal detection cameras proves the virus is slowed by masks. Maybe someone likes Betts can answer this but most viruses don’t like heat and why would it be proved with thermal cameras it is slowed by masks? I don’t understand it.
