If you are speaking of the cafeteria at 23rd and Drexel...yes, that was Adairs Tropical Cafeteria. All along the south and east sides of the cafeteria creating the line in which you stood, were fish tanks full of all sorts of tropical fish. It was one of my family favorites. We used to go there about every other Sunday for lunch after morning church services. We would go there, or El Charito in Paseo. And then about every 5 Sunday or so...we would get the broasted chicken and potatos from the supermarket just west of Adairs. But Adairs was a great cafeteria. Loved eating there. It is now the 23rd street Antique Mall. And when you go in the antique mall, you can still recognize a lot of the big room with the sculpted ceiling. Same with what was the cafeteria at about 33rd and May on the East side. The name of that one escapes me at this time...but I remember it well also.

I remember Adairs as it was a family favorite of ours as well. We also spent a lot of time at O'Mealeys, which is the one on May that you couldn't remember the name of. They also had a location down on 23rd street around Walker or so.

The box had an elephant drawn on top?? There was one close to Glen's on NW10th and one in Capitol Hill on SW 29th. Have never had a whole wheat glazed donut that could compare to theirs....

following you:.........Pulliam's daughter still has his bar-b-que recipe and (for a price) she'll sell you a gallon. My wife had her kids in school. She lives in Moore and tried to make on N.Wilshire in the bar-b-que business but it didn't work.

Pulliam's was good BBQ. Do you remember what they served the food on? What color did they paint the inside?

Hey guy:...........The first time I went to Pulliams's you were still in diapers....They served EVERYTHING on Butcher paper....Pepsi or and Orange drink was all you got to drink and they kep the meat warming in an old bathtub with a sheet metal cover...The insides as I remember were changed about every week. I guess to keep the Health department guessing. My dad would take his deer there to be cooked because my mom wouldn't.....Hot Sauce with a flavor and not a burn...Oh yeah:....you always received an onion.........Gotcha:..........See ya next time.

I remember an ugly pale green paint. They painted everything including the flies in the windows.

They used the daily paper when they ran out of butcher paper. Very flavorful.

White bread and no menus. Never trust a BBQ joint that has menus.

Leo's has gone down hill. The only thing that's the same is the strawberry cake.

One day my mom came home from work and made it for me:..........Mayo/ketchup, TBlsp:..Garlic Powder, tsp.Salt:...Doesn't take much to
    impress me Huh?

Hey, I remember Gene's Kerr McGee (59th & S.May). That's where we filled up out cars. He was our mechanic, too. I remember his son worked there a lot. One day he came home with a terrible headache. He lied down in his room and never woke up. It was a brain hemorrhage.

The lowest price I ever saw for gas was in Shawnee during a gas war. It was 13 cents a gallon! I filled my Puegeot (1959 403) for a dollar.

There were a few occasions in OKC that gas fell below 20 cents.

One weekend I came home from boarding school and spent about 5 dollars on the credit car for gas at Gene's in one weekend ('68 Cutlass). Dad hit the roof. How can you drive that much?

In 1960, my father owned a DX gas station on North May across from Lakeside Shopping Center. He was selling gas for 11 cents a gallon to be competitive. I remember that made my mother mad, because she felt he was actually losing money for selling the gas so cheap.

Taco Boy! My favorite place to eat as a kid. I was a skinny little thing but could wolf down 6 tacos with no problem. The hot sauce was the best, and I ate that by itself with a spoon. When the Taco Boy on May and NW 36th was destroyed by the 1969 tornado, I was heartbroken. Luckily, a new one was built on Britton Road, even closer to my home.

I remember going to the huge snack bar where they had pinball machines. The popcorn and soft drinks were served in red and white striped paper bags, boxes, and cups with the ugly red "drama mask" as a decoration. That ugly mask always creeped me out as a little kid.

That was Tammy Lynn Youth Fashions. I bought my baby son a cute khaki short set there back in 1977, and he had a photo taken in that outfit.

Where was the huge snack bar?

Hey, everybody, it's very important to include at least part of the post you're answering. Otherwise we have no clue to whom your responding or what you're talking about.

Sorry! I am rather new on this and learning how to post remarks.
The huge snack bar was at the Twilight Gardens Drive-In Theater at North May and Britton Road.

Taco Boy....man I had forgotten that one. I grew up at 24th and Villa. We loved Taco Boy. My favorite was the taco burger. Their taco meat was the best. I was so saddened when that tornado took it out. I remember that night well. We saw that tornado. My dad used to love to go out and try and see the tornadoes back then.

There used to be a station on N. W. 10th and Portland on the Northwest corner. I was out with my southside girlfriend headed to Nicolosis's restaurant and the gas there that night was 10.9 cents per gallon (you had to pump it yourself). Probably the only time in my younger days that I could afford to fill the tank up in my '63 Impala. Great times....That was still expensive $ 1.90 OR $2.00 I think.

See ya next time:.....................General '78 I have your locker handles with me..I got six of them for you....Do what ever you want with them.

Speaking of remembering old gas prices around OKC...we used to go to the "new" auto carwash called "THE ROBO" on N. BRITTON RD close to the tracks at WESTERN. Their gas prices were about $.20 a gallon. This was late 60s I believe....
