Looks like they got that sign up... Wow, it's big! (photo credit to newsok.com):
Holy crap, you must have the most sheltered kids in the world. You have way more to fear taking your kids to a Burger King at night than downtown at night, let alone South Robinson. The Mont at 10 pm on a Friday night...are we thinking of the same Mont, filled with couples and girls-night-out types at that hour? That's some scary stuff any parent should shield their 17 year old from.
Your question reminds me of the old parody of the legislature, where someone goes up and asks on every bill, "But what does it do for the children?" Lol
I think it is a bad idea for Treasures Past to have opened without a sign, especially considering the quality of signage on Broadway and the fact there is still the Bicycle Alley Sign above their store.
At their old location they enjoyed the visibility from putting chairs and tables on the street so everyone knew what they were selling. No such advertising at the new location.
When I was at the old store they said they were moving but not to where. I think they are going to loose a lot of business in the short term.
I don't know if Treasures past has the right sort of furniture for AA. If I were them, I think I'd go a bit more eclectic - throw in some mid century modern and perhaps some continental pieces with more lamps and accessories.
I have purchased a couple of mid century modern pieces from Treasures Past. They seem to always have quite a few, although I have not been in the new location.
They have about 20% mid-century in the store. The owner said he would like to have more but that he has a hard time obtaining it because it is so popular right now.
Regarding the sign, they are taking the Bicycle Alley sign down and trying to get it "converted" to their logo. I do agree that they need to invest in advertising to not loose people from the old location though. It seems that the move happened quickly due to issues with the old landlord.
It is not about how you raise your kids, it is about the relative dangers to them at any particular location. Hideaway has NEVER been known as a wild place, even in Stillwater. They are a great addition to AA. Even you should be happy they are opening there instead of trying to frighten people off.
Just the Facts, this Hideaway bar is set up in the same manner as a bar at Red Lobster, Olive Garden or Chili's. It's not as if they're going to have ROK Bar in their midst.
Betts already answered the question about 20 posts ago but thanks. Every since then I have gotten advice on how to raise kids, even from people that don't even have them. It is little wonder why a lot of people have left OKCTalk recently. The quality of the discussions have gone downhill to the point that it is no longer productive to continue. In fact, I expect 2 or 3 comments from people suggesting that if I don't like it maybe I should just stop. Maybe that is sound advice.
Sorry, didn't mean to offend. Didn't see Betts give this answer. I was not trying to talk down to you. I do agree there are some folks on this site who are condescending, rude and act in a manner that would not be acceptable in person to person interactions. I took my own break for several months...
Back to the subject...
Mason recently bought a couple of properties (shown in green) on NW 8th, adjacent to his 9th Street properties (yellow):
That 2000 sq ft building on top of the roof in the 2nd picture could make a sweet rooftop bar... one overlooking 8th street to the north, capital to the east, sunset to the west, and downtown to the south. I've heard the view from a top the building is unbelievable.
Mason has done a fantastic job with his properties and seems to be attracting lots of creative business owners/partners (The Womb, Rawhide, Okla. Association of the Arts, Iguana, etc.)
These properties have fantastic potential as well. Very excited to see what happens here.
I'm a 23 year old and long been a proponent of OKC developing a new entertainment district. With Blair Humphreys knowledge, Steve's funding, and Steve's son I believe the pieces are in place to make this area great. Steve and Blair will be smart enough to make the area appeal to all ages and I think Steves son will help in knowing what young adults my age are looking for. Steve loves picking young minds. I hope and have been lobbying for a true patio restaurant/bar for forever and I think there is a great opportunity in this area. Right across from Iguana I think has the most potential for a true patio restaurant/bar. If you could keep the trees right there it would provide for good shade in the summer months and you could even plant some more. I wonder if S&B Burgers is looking at this property for relocation, my apologies if that is where they are relocating. Now think about if he turns the rooftop space on the new building he acquired on 8th street into another rooftop patio (an actual open to the public bar though) that overlooks Iguana and the property across the street. I know most people are going to say that we don't just need bars and I agree. There needs to be restaurants that turn into bars at night like a better, more vibrant Nova or an Iron Starr like the one that was in Norman. I wouldn't write off a small music venue as well.
I agree, but we need more residences too. And better shopping wouldn't hurt.
Metro, I think there is a very real chance that both of our wants will be met. The new building on 8th street is 3 stories...
If we get the quiet zone, there is a lot of open land north of 8th St. that would be great for residences. That's where, I believe, Bert Belanger had some plans for apartments. There is other open land, as well as existing buildings, between 9th and Deep Deuce that could be utilized as well.
