OK Southsiders, I'm back, lol. I've been on Ancestry.com doin research for a family reunion and they have copies of the OKC Polk Directories for 1936, 37, 38, and 49-50.
The 1936 directory shows a Samaritan Hospital at 2400 S Harvey. I've never heard of this. Just curious about whether it changed names and if the building is still there. Withh google maps you can put in an address and see a street view now and it looks like there's an older bldg that might have been a hospital at that corner. I have posted the page in my pic album here and will add some restaurant pages from 49-50. Interesting to see that Deaconess Hospital was the "Home of Redeeming Love" (for unwed mothers) in 1936, and that Hollie's and Cherry's Drive-ins were in the 49-50 Directory. No Cattlemen's Hotel in 1936. http://www.okctalk.com/members/jmgra...directory.html
My dad had a minor surgery there in the 50's or early 60's I think. My memory of the name at that time was Capitol Hill General Hosp or something like that. That's only what I think it was, I'm not sure. Seems like it closed in the 60's. Again , not sure on that either.
================================================== ========
I had my tonsils removed at the Capitol Hill General Hospital in 1953...And, yes the building is still standing there.....it is however all Boarded up. I was in that same hospital in December of 1964 if that helps any????
Capitol Hill General is on the S.E. corner of SW 23 and Harvey. It was still open in the mid-60's when I had my tonsils removed there. I tell people my first wife was born there, they closed hoping to never make the same mistake.
I have seen pictures of the hospital your speaking of. These are much older than CHG.
I was unable to find a photograph that would transfer. The hospital can be found via the Oklahoman, from 1900 up to the 1920's. I did not look past the 20's. Address given is only "Robinson St." Two phone numbers, one for Capitol Hill and another for a downtown location. The hospital was open strange hours, 10:00-12:00, 2:00-4:00, and 6:00-8:00 (something like that). The place treated everything but contagious disease.
A good friend of our family owned the Captal Hill General Hospital! He gave us all the contents just to haul it off in 1971 shortly after it closed. Forgot exactly what year but about 1970. His name was Dr. Alvin R. Jackson, he delivered my humble little body there in 1947. Also, it NEVER had air conditioning even in later years..
Ok! Who remembers the Mai Kai bar at 44th and Penn.? I hear it's still open.
Don't be buggin' me. I'm fishing western NC!
South East corner was the Mint. Man, you was d-r-u-n-k.
The mai-pai-tai-lai-hai-andai-youai-nameitai-itai didn't exist. That is unless
you is tawklin' 'bout the 90's, which doesn't qualify for a memory on this
thread. Me thinketh thou participated in much Sandoz intramural activities.
I drove by 44th and Penn a couple of hours ago and all I saw on the southeast corner was and empty space at the north end of Grant Square. So are we talking NORTH Penn and 44th? Get a rope.
No, it's SW 44th and penn you have to look hard but its there.
Yeah, I posted wrong local it's just off the corner on s.w. side. It's been there forever. It's between bank and corner.
