I was the one that provided the info about the Devon lighting.
What happened was this: Devon contracted with a company in Florida to install, test and program the lighting. The lighting was actually integrated into the window panels and a bunch of them were damaged during installation. There was disagreement over who was responsible to make these repairs, then there was disagreement about the lighting company getting access to the building maintenance unit (the crane on top used for window washing and maintenance) and ultimately there was a big falling out. So much so the two parties parted companies before the system was fully programmed and Devon merely took that on themselves.
Makes sense. So probably safe to assume it's another company working on the lighting here?
Now that this tower is more or less completed this year, it's been about five years since Devon Tower was finished. Here's to one new tower downtown every five years! (Hopefully)
Hopefully faster than one every 5 years.
In the next 5, we'll see an Omni hotel, the 17 story residential at 4th and EKG, and a complete overhaul of First National (which is going to cost enough that it might as well be a new tower). Let's hope for 3 new towers every 5 years!
There is also a new 8 floor patient tower going up this fall in the Health complex.
^Yes. Not to mention that there will be a lot of infill in the Film Row area up into Midtown which I imagine will include at least one 5 story building and will add to the density. I also believe that once EKG gets built, there will be someone who takes the risk on another residential high rise on West side of the MAPS park and/or the Stage Center site. Not to mention we'll probably have more traction on the Lumberyard site within the next 5 years. I'm very happy to sit and let the rest of what we know go into place before moving into more and keep our growth at a controlled and maintained pace that allows for proper planning.
Everybody is forgetting Rick Dowell's proposed residential tower on 5th. I'm sure that'll happen super quickly.
My all time favorite views are when you're standing on the Bermuda Triangle at White Water and look east, or when you're on I44 southbound near the fairgrounds approaching I40 and look directly east, or when you're on a plane approaching Will Roger's Airport from the north at night and you look out the window towards downtown from the air near I40 and Meridian. Those views to me makes OKC look like a big league city.
And OKC is pretty impressive compared to Memphis, St. Louis, Buffalo, Indianapolis, Albuquerque, Little Rock, Birmingham as examples.
"Real" in the Dowell sense of it. Which is anybody's guess.
Almost as real as the dumpster sitting in the street at the 100 block of Kerr.
So the Dowell Tower will be built up by the Regency Tower? I think it needs to be 25 stories.
Dowell has one tower already that is more than he can seemingly handle.
By the way, there's no Wikipedia entry for BOK Park Plaza Tower.
Safe bet based on available data
Just as an FYI, Dowell had been talking about building a tower on this hill since at least 1999 or 2000.
