Thread: Best burgers in Oklahoma?

I used to be one of those people until I seen my brother at family get together. He dropped 50 pounds and looked ten years younger. I asked him how he did it, he said he just simply cut his portions back, started eating less drive thru food and hit the gym 2-3 times a week. Seeing him was enough to convince me I could do it, because he has always been a chubby guy his whole life.

That was about six months ago. I did the same thing and now I am 25 pounds lighter and I only eat a fast food junk food meal once a week if I am lucky. When I do eat fast food I am often going for the smaller sandwhiches and I get the medium fry not the jumbo box. I think eating is like a lot of things in life. You get used to eating the mega portion and you autmatically think you have to eat that much to get full when in realtiy you don't have to eat that much. I have retrianed my appetite to be happy with smaller portions. When I am in the mood pig out, I only go places that sell food that can be reheated or eaten cold at later time. I eat until I am at the point I am strarting fill full then I stop. I chase it glass of water and I am good. What's left over I save for later and eat it for lunch or for a snack depending on how much is left.

It is really not that hard to do. After awhile you stop missing the fast food and you stop eating so much becuase your mind starts asking the question "Do you really want to eat this?" I had it happen to me tonight at work. I went to the vending machine for a snickers bar and a Dr. Pepper. As soon as I got there, I talked my self out of it and went down to the cafeteria for a fruit salad and a bottle water.

I have tried Ima's no name, Johny's charbroiled, Ron's hamburgers, Nic's Grill and Mrs. Spriggs BBQ and Burgers. This week I'm hoping to try 15th St grill in Midwest City and McNellies on a Wednesday. Down the line, I hope to try Kobe Sliders at both the Red Prime and Musashi's.

Nic's Grill has been my favorite but still wasn't perfect. I witnessed sanitation issues. I was there for 20 minutes and watched Nic wash his hands three times. However during that time he constantly was handling money, handling raw meat and grabbing the cups of customer to refill their drinks. The biggest issue is when things are handled that do not get heated such as picked up a toasted buns and adding toppings. There were also a number of black flies landing on the toppings and also the cutting board in front of the toppings. I don't care, I'm not a health inspector, but could understand if that bothered someone. Overall a great burger.

I did a quick search in this thread and didnt' see any mention of S&B's Burger Joint!

They have been open about 1 year - They are at NW 59th & May -- ground floor of the office building that is in the parking lot near Best Buy. (Previously Electro Lounge). They make great full size burgers and sliders -- creative toppings and each week a new special feature burger. Their "Fatty" is made like the onion burgers in El Reno!

Tuesdays they do a "pay it forward" and pick a local charity and donate proceeds for that day.

We have taken the sliders off of the menu at Red PrimeSteak. I suggest you get to Republic for The Republic Burger.

Bunny's has a $15 for $7 deal going on right now if you're in the mood for a good onion burger.

To follow up, I did try the 15th St grill in Midwest city and McNellies and both were spectacular.

I said this in a thread about pizza. There's no "right" or "wrong" to this stuff. If McNellie's has a burger that's spectacular to USAF, it's spectacular. Your taste or my taste or preference may be different - but it's not right or wrong. Our taste buds are neither better or worse than USAF - just different. Surely we can respect that?

I canna speak for the one in Midtown, but with the demise of O'Connell's on Lindsey in Norman, McNellie's Abner Ale House stands alone as the best burger in Norman.

Compared to what? In and Out burger? lol It seems like McNellies mixes in something into the meat, I prefer McNellies to Irma's no name burger which uses local beef. I got to try something different at Irmas. I had an errand in to run in Yukon Today, I was going to try to make it to Johnys or Sids in El Reno, but saw Fat Elvis Diner and gave that a shot. That one I wouldn't call spectacular but still great.

McNellie's is god, but I give the edge to the Diner on Man Street.

From the places ive tried i would say rons or republic have really good burgers. But even with those two places you get considerably different style burgers.

    Can't say that I'm a fan of Meer's. Haven't been to Nic's or Ann's.

best burger in norman is at the service station.

I recently tried HD's Onion Burgers at NW 122nd & Rockwell. That's not a part of town I'm in very often, but it was well worth the trip.

Where I'm at right now, it's tough to get a good burger that reminds you of home. I know unequivocally the first place I want to go when I get back to Oklahoma is Nic's. Here's hoping I get back sometime between 10-2, in that case..

Sorry if I missed this point in this thread, but in my opinion, burgers are placed in 2 categories: Traditional and Gourmet.
    Best traditional: Bunny's
Best Gourmet: Republic (a tad biased, but very proud of our final product here)

I honestly don't think that one is better than the other, just different. Sometimes you need a gourmet burger, sometimes not...I could have both on back to back days.

Anyone had the Land Run burger at Jim's Restaurant? It's at 39th and Council in Bethany. The burger is double patty. Very thick and juicy.

They are good. They taste like they were dipped in lard, but still tasty!

I'll take that as a huge compliment. I will tell you that Republic's burgers are not dipped in lard, but I will be trying that very soon.

Speaking of lard, check out this video at the 2:23 mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTKys...eature=related

It's the heart attack grill in AZ where they actually "butter" the buns in lard.
