Thread: Threshold Climbing + Fitness

Went on the tour. Seems like a cool place. Quite a showing. From what I've gathered, everybody that was there was more or less there for the same reason I was. The cost of convenience. People are around the area and don't want to drive downtown when they want to climb.

The Climb up in downtown also supposedly hasn't increased in quality since RockTown either. Took a note of who I saw that worked there and at the moment can say that nobody that worked there gave positive comments to the price discussion (yes, I'm that guy).

Updated their prices to reflect pre-paying in advanced too. Works out to a free month (90.75/month). Student discount is about 10% off.

    Soft open is today.

Don't forget the $50 "signup fee".
So, they want me to pay them $50 just to sign up. I have to wonder if they are trying to keep customers away at this point. Maybe they only want the Gallardia crowd in the gym for now?

For my son to get a 1-month membership, it would be $150 + $50 signup fee. Nope, not gonna happen.

The $90/month cost is for the recurring monthly membership, with a 3-month minimum commitment, must notify them of cancellation 15 days in advance, and oh yeah, the initial $50 signup fee. Also, nope.

I got no answer when I asked that if he decides to do one month, then take a month off and go back, would be another signup fee.

He's going to do the $20 daily visit for now once they open. For as often as he'll be going, it'll do.

I have a feeling this place will need to adjust their pricing (i.e. offer an "climbing only" option at a reduced cost), or they won't be around long. Maybe once the novelty wears off in 6 or 8 months, things will be adjusted.

Pay in advance and there is no sign up fee. Initial registration had more people than I thought. We'll see if anything changes from that though. I've tried to family up but to no avail.

Does anyone know about military rates? They've confirmed multiple times that they plan on offering a military discount but haven't published one yet.

    I'm bumping for 2 reasons

    1. I feel bad I didn't get back to AP, they waived the app fee at the time.

    2. I got an email saying that they're lowering their rates.

It is good they lowered their rates. I had a feeling it was coming because they post discounts all the time on Facebook. Do you know if they have lowered the daily rate at all or started selling punch cards?

I really hope they make it, but I just don't see that many people paying more for them than Life Time once Life Time opens, except for pretty serious climbers and people that live in the immediate area.

Not sure on either of those. I've seen them kind of go on advertising a ladies night on Thursday, and nothing beyond that.

What is the going rate at life time?

There have been promos besides lady's night, like discounts before certain times, etc.

Not sure what the rate will be in OKC, I was paying 106 with tax for two adults in Tulsa a few years ago. I would expect the OKC one to be around 120-130 for two adults. The rock climbing won't be as good, but I think it's about on par with the sport climbing sections of Climb Up Norman, they also have included gear usage. In Tulsa a lot of people switched from New Horizons to Life Time.

Life Time won't be a replacement for real serious people, but people that want a fitness center and enjoy climbing would be better off there.

Now that you mention the price, I'm not so sure. Threshold does come with Free weights, treadmill, and other basic stuff. If people really wanted value though for a fitness center CLIF is right outside Threshold.

Life Time isn't a value fitness experience... I just don't see anyone that is only casually into climbing and wanting a gym/yoga picking Threshold as their gym over Life Time for a similar price. I mean Threshold is who is claiming their prices are justified by being a full gym, but their fitness area will seem like a Hilton workout room compared to Life Time.

As an example the Tulsa Life Time had 50+ yoga classes a week, including hot yoga. The climbing won't be as good, but it'll be okay, but everything else is in a completely different sport.

Edit: Basically what I am getting at, for what they are charging for memberships I would need/want it to be my only gym. They claim they fit that bill, justifying the price. But I look at what they offer as a total gym+climbing package and compare it to what I know Life Time will offer and I don't see many people picking them as their gym over Life Time. Except for people that want climbing to be 50-75%+ of their indoor working out and don't care about pools. Again, I hope they do well, I really want the competition, but they obviously entered the market at a much too high price point.

That's good, the pass and cards are still a little higher than I'd love, but I think it puts it at the high end of reasonable, instead of over it.
