We went to Texas de Brazil for lunch today because they were giving away $8 vouchers off a dinner purchase. Shortly after we arrived former Sherriff John Whetsel was seated at the table next to ours.
Now I've never cared for Whetsel all the way back from my highschool days when he was the Chief of Police but now I have even more reason to dislike him...... TdB cooks all their beef medium rare. You can ask for it cooked more and they will but Whetsel ordered it..... WELL DONE!!! - GAHHHHHHHH!!!
Go to McDonald's if you want well done beef. Not a nice steakhouse!
^^ I wonder if this is a regional or generational thing. Whetsel is the same age my father would be, and growing up and into my early adulthood I hated steaks because all I had growing up were charcoaled hockey pucks. It wasn't till my mid 20's that someone convinced me to try a medium rare steak.
Possibly... But my dad, who would be just slightly older if he was still living, ate his steaks blue.... In fact he would put a steak in a screaming hot cast iron skillet, flip it once after about a minute, and start cutting it up and eating it out of the skillet after that first flip...... My dad was a Kansas farm boy though. So maybe it's more of a regional thing.... I've never been able to eat them that rare but I can handle medium to medium rare.
My ex father in law liked them like shoe leather and would pour catsup on them. Whenever he would visit from Scotland he always wanted to go to a western themed steakhouse or have me cook him a steak.... I flat out refused to cook a steak like that so we usually ended up at Cimmarron.
Yep.... I saw an elderly couple ask for catsup for their well done filets at The Ranch one night. Waiter brought them a bowl of catsup and they would swirl each bite of steak around in it..... To be honest I don't even eat catsup on my burgers..... and I definitely don't put it on hot dogs.... In fact about the only thing I eat it on is potatoes..... But if I'm paying $45 for 6oz of meat.... You can bet I'm going to slap the teeth out of anyones mouth that gets a bottle of catsup near it!
I don't trust people who use windows or have their steaks cooked well done.
I can't imagine a day ever when I'd be hungry enough to eat at Texas de Brazil.
