Don't care for Pioneer Park. Every city has pioneers at some point.

I submitted Unity Park since I knew the other good suggestions here would get subbed and given the times and such...

That's exactly what my wife said! I still like it, but I also like Pioneer Pies

I feel there is too many Pioneer Parks in the world. I think there is probably hundreds of them in the US. I would like something unique, but still catchy.

I originally was going to submit Heartland Park, but apparently that is a motocross track in Kansas.

I submitted Prosper Park. I cannot [easily] find any existence of a park named that in the US.

    Skydance Park.

Tie the park (Skydance Park) to the pedestrian bridge.

I'm not a big fan of skydance. I love the bridge itself, but have never really liked the name.

That's funny because I feel just the opposite! The only thing that has me worried about Scissortail is mainly because of the word "scissor", and I'm afraid people might take that word in another direction if any of you know what I mean. I would hate for something like that to catch on and become a laughing stock when we are attempting to urbanize our city and compete with some of the bigger leagues. Am I the only one that thinks this? It's the first thing I thought of when I saw Scissortail.

I do recognize some may be opposed to "honoring" the land run, but I think Pioneer speaks more to anyone who was willing to settle in the wilderness - as opposed to a celebration of the taking of lands. Anywho, I'm just excited it is being put to a public vote!
And it's worth pointing out that recognizing "pioneers" means marginalizing the Indigenous histories that are a large part of Oklahoma's history. Many of the Pioneers in Oklahoma, for example, were Boomers like David Payne who had no respect for Indigenous treaties, land, or cultures. I've also never found the many black freedman that founded all-black towns to be included in "pioneer" histories. Anyway, I'd just like to see any public parks to be inclusive if they're to be historical.

I hear you. I tried to address this concern by suggesting a name that wasn't necessarily "land-run" related. It's a fair concern. Certainly don't want to marginalize anyone! It wasn't intended to, but your point stands.

    Back to the drawing board!

What about something reflecting our state rock?

Rose Park? Rose Rock? Rose Rock Park?

Then it would be cool to maybe have a giant statue of a cool looking rose rock in the center of the park.

If my choice ends up being a finalist, I'll let everyone know. I think I picked a good, strong name. And I haven't seen it posted in this thread, yet.

I don't think Tulsa Hurricane Park will get selected no matter how strong a hurricane may be.

Yeah. I'm not going to share my suggestions any more. Only opens it up for negative discourse. We'll wait and see when they pick 5 or 6.

Or how about naming it after the state meal? Chicken Fried Steak Park?
