I've heard/read that stronger than normal cold fronts in the PNW can cause a more active severe season in the southern plains. This tends to happen during La Nina years which is why many of Oklahoma's worst tornado seasons happen whenever there is a La Nina.
Oklahoma is due for a quieter spring. While the past few years the OKC area has been spared the worst of it, with the exception of 2014 every spring since 2010 has been on the active side.
