I swear there is a restaurant there unless I'm loosing my mind.
I swear there is a restaurant there unless I'm loosing my mind.
I think they have a small snack bar as well as skate rental when the skating rink is open.
I was wondering. Do they move out all the cooking equipment during that? That seems like a lot of work between seasons. Though I do think it is a great idea. It brings people to the great gardens. I loved sitting in the park during the summer when I lived downtown. I will miss some of that being in Norman now.
They are planning to screen off the back side of this building; the part that faces Robinson.
From their Facebook page:
soft opening this weekend from 11-3pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday as a practice Run before our big Grand Re-opening on April the 3rd!!!!
Went by there yesterday at 1:45PM and they told me they closing up, even though they had all their signage out advertising 11-3 hours.
It was a little chilly (around 60) but no rain or real threat of it and there were plenty of people in the park.
Second time I've tried to give them my money during advertised business hours and was turned away.
They are completely inconsistent with their hours to the extent that I can't go there anymore on a whim. Every time I think I know what their hours are now, I show up and they're closed or closing. It's frustrating so I've just stopped trying. Just as well to walk to S&B or Garage instead.
Basically it goes like this:
At least 60F and sunny = open
At least 70F and cloudy = open
Consistent rain = closed
I've done the same.
They open for the season at 11AM tomorrow Thursday.
The one time I had a burger there, it was really good.. Looking forward to eating here again!
Side topic, but slightly on-topic. Is that fountain next to the ice house made for playing in? Or is it a visual/audible feature? When I brunch at the park house I see it's got more people splashing around than a municipal pool. Whole families coming in with sack lunches and making a day of it. I'm not complaining I just wonder if that was it's intent. A municipal water park north of the oklahoma river would be pretty neat. I've been to a couple events in wiley post park and the water park there is PACKED.

Yes, it's a splash pad made for kids to get in and get wet.
Same with the Thunder fountain on the west side of the park.
Can't say for sure but I am on the board at the gardens and I don't think the intention was for it to be a splash pad. I could be wrong.
No more NIc's Burgers at the Myriad Gardens
Holloway Restaurant Group (HRG), which had previously pulled out of running the Park House restaurant in the Myriad Gardens, will no longer operate the Ice House in the park.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
The Myriad Gardens foundation has issued an RFP to find a new operator after HRG decided not to continue.
The restaurant space is on the east side of the park and is operated from March to October. In the other months the 394 square foot building is used for skate rental for the adjacent ice skating rink.
HRG opened both the Park House and Ice House in the fall of 2013. As we were first to report in January of 2016, Park House ceased operating as a full-time restaurant that same month after a 2-year run.
While HRG will now focus on their Cafe 501 and Boulevard Steakhouse restaurants, they will remain the preferred caterer for the Myriad Gardens Event Center, which was formerly the Park House.
Proposals for the restaurant space are due February 25th.
I'm glad to hear this, hopefully they get a better operator in there. It seems like such a great location, but their hours were so inconsistent I just stopped trying to go. I don't know how many times I walked over there when their listed hours were open to find nobody there. In addition, the quality of the food had gone down hill over the last year in my opinion. The last time I went the burger tasted nothing like it used to and came out cold.

Yep, I stopped trying to go after finding them closed several times during their posted business hours.
Never did eat there.
Ate there once. then had same issue. 3 times going and it being closed.
No more Icehouse?
"Those farging iceholes."
Virtual high five to anyone that can name that movie.
