    Legacy West inviting in home furnishings retailer



    Ohio-based Frontgate is opening a showcase store in Plano’s Legacy West development meant to be a home furnishings destination for the North Texas region.
    It will also include a 2,500-square-foot patio where customers can grab food and wine, shop Frontgate’s outdoor products and talk with one of the store’s four on-site designers.

    “This concept store will be more of a showcase of the brand,” said Tyler Thompson, head of public relations and partnerships for Frontgate. “We’re bringing it to life in a 360-degree environment, allowing the customers to interact with the product.”
    So far, this is the only store Frontgate has planned for Dallas-Fort Worth, though the concept is shopping for other locations around the country.
    The 22,000-square-foot shop is expected to launch in late May 2017.

    Trump Hotels CEO doesn't 'see any reason' U.S. expansion can't grow threefold, including a Dallas site

    President Donald Trump's hotel-management company wants to expand its namesake luxury hotels across the U.S. while it holds off on new overseas business, its chief executive officer said.

    "There are 26 major metropolitan areas in the U.S., and we're in five," Trump Hotels CEO Eric Danziger said after a panel discussion Tuesday at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit in Los Angeles. "I don't see any reason that we couldn't be in all of them eventually."

    Having Trump hotels in 26 cities would triple the current total. Trump's company manages eight namesake hotels in the U.S., some of which the Trump family owns. Danziger, who joined Trump Hotels in August 2015, said that Trump Hotels is considering opening luxury properties in Dallas, Seattle, Denver and San Francisco, where he started his career in 1971 as a bellman at a Fairmont hotel.

    UNT hopes new $70M building will be a 'game-changer'



    Construction on the University of North Texas' new $70 million College of Visual Arts and Design building began Tuesday in a move university officials hope will bolster the college's recruiting efforts.
    Currently, the College of Visual Arts and Design is spread across seven campus spaces. In addition to the construction of the new four-story, 145,000 gross square-foot complex, renovations will be done on the existing Art Building that's approximately 83,000 square feet.

    The new building and the existing Art Building will be connected, giving the College of Visual Arts and Design a total complex of about 228,000 square feet.

    The new building is slated to be ready for students by the Fall 2018 semester.

    Exclusive: Trump Hotels' newest concept to plant stake near Dallas City Hall



    President Donald Trump's hotel management company, New York City-based Trump Hotels, plans to put a stake in the ground in downtown Dallas with a new hotel — which could be the first concept of its kind realized in the United States.

    The Dallas Business Journal has learned the hotelier plans to place its new 4-star concept, called Scion, within walking distance to Dallas' city hall.
    Trump Hotels' new Scion Dallas hotel — a six-story, 220-room hotel with ground-floor retail space — will sit within a new $50 million mixed-use development near city hall, said Turkish developer Mike Sarimsakci.
    Unlike the ultra-luxury brand of the Trump Hotels namesake, the Scion brand won't bear the Trump name and will be relatively affordable with hotel rooms ranging from $200 to $300 a night versus a nightly rate of $700 and up.
    Alterra International, which is based in Dallas and Istanbul, plans to develop the new Scion Dallas hotel as part of a mixed-use development fronting St. Paul Street between Wood and Young streets in downtown Dallas.

    The two parcels of land, which total nearly one-acre, are under contract by the development firm. An affiliate of Dallas-based Hamilton Properties Corp. — Hamilton St Paul Grp LLC — has a contract to sell the land to Sarimsakci in a deal expected to close by this summer.
    Dallas-based 5G Studio Collaborative has begun working on architectural renderings for the Scion Dallas hotel.
    "The Dallas hotel will be the inspiration for the Detroit hotel because Dallas will probably be the first Scion hotel in the United States."

    The Scion Dallas hotel will feature much of the city throughout the building with modern, clean lines and lots of warmth, said Nile Tuzun, creative director of design and branding for Alterra International.

    "People staying there will know they are in Dallas, each room will have its own environment and references to Dallas," said Tuzun, who added the new brand will attract "young professional" travelers.

    The ground-floor retail space, which will total about 20,000 square feet, will help bring in a Turkish furniture retailer, a steakhouse, a seafood restaurant, a Mediterranean restaurant and a Turkish coffee shop with pastries.
    One thing the project won't rely on: City money.
    "We want Dallas to be London, we want Dallas to be Singapore and having these venues that we are creating will bring and keep the young people in Dallas," he said.

    Big changes on the way at downtown Dallas' Chase Tower





    "We have some pretty dramatic changes coming at Chase Tower," said Jonathan Landau, CEO of building owner Fortis Property Group. "We want to deliver something that gives you better access to the building."
    "We are going to make the plaza in front an extension of the Arts District," he said. "Right now, it's not very appealing for arrivals. The building has so much to offer by repositioning the plaza and creating an art component."
    A more open plaza area, landscaping, walkways and a motor drop off at the base of the building are part of the plans for the Ross Avenue side of the tower.
    "It's going to be a pretty dramatic change," he said. "We are going to strip clean the entire plaza and start from scratch."
    "We plan to bring in a top tier restaurant to the rotunda which it was initially designed for," Landau said. "It's a prime location and absolutely beautiful space."
    Landau said he's almost done with the designs for the plaza renovations and plans to start construction in the coming months.

    FENDI has opened its new Highland Park Village boutique. This marks the brands return to the Dallas market after several years.

    The store occupies the former Cole Haan space, in-betweeen Dior and Tory Burch. Other tenants in that building include: Balenciaga, Hermes, Stella McCartney and Harry Winston.

    Trump airport stimulus could speed construction of 6th terminal at DFW International

    For DFW Airport, an increase in federal aviation dollars could permit or speed the construction of a sixth terminal, Hegarty said.
    The airport is in discussions with its largest tenant, American Airlines, about possibly building a sixth terminal, DFW Airport CEO Sean Donohue has said.

    With the area’s population and economic growth, the airport’s existing 165 gates will not be enough to handle the region’s projected growth, he said. The proposed Terminal F could add about 30 gates. Donohue said in past discussions that he hopes to open a new terminal early in 2020 or soon after.
    A sixth terminal would put DFW “at the forefront of international airports,” Hegarty said.

    “The intent would be to would make DFW one of the premier airports in the world,” Hegarty said, “taking (ideas from) some of the more recently built facilities, such as the airports in Singapore and Abu Dhabi, and applying them here.”
    The Obama administration never took action on the issue, but U.S. airline executives have asked Trump to consider doing so.

    New apartment block on the way in growing West Dallas

    Toll Brothers is planning to build on a roughly 4-acre site west of downtown at the northeast corner of West Commerce and Pittman Street.

    The property is now occupied by an large commercial building.
    Toll Brothers' spokesman John Piedrahita confirms his firm is working on the deal. "At this time, it is slated to be approximately 280 units," he said in an email.

    Lakeside apartment and retail projects kick off at Cypress Waters

    "We are starting 537 apartments in two different blocks," said developer Lucy Billingsley. "One of the buildings will be 7-stories - a bit taller than we've done before there.
    "We are even buying old brick for the exteriors to make it feel correct," Billingsley said. "There is a rooftop deck with restaurants upstairs."

    The new apartments, restaurant and retail at The Sound are scheduled to open early in 2018.

    The developer is also starting work soon on a 5-story, 250,000-square-foot office building 3100 Olympus Boulevard in The Sound.
