Someone whose insights/opinions/info I trust relayed that Odom had put in that road somewhat speculatively because there was talk/negotiation/rumblings (pick your favorite word) that a hotel wanted to land on that side of I-44, but lamented the lack of service road access....hence, in went the road. The hotel, quite obviously, never materialized.

I wish we could get *one* nice, pleasant, sit-down, non-fast-food restaurant option in that area. I don't even mind a chain...Cheddars would be fine with me. I just get tired of a Taco Something going on nearly every empty ten-square-foot parcel of land that pops open.

We've got Victoria's Pasta Shop just a bit farther east on SW 104th, but I've never been a fan; and Arby's is going in at the corner (oh, joy). There's a Pub W going in a bit farther south on May, so that's a hopeful sign...

I'm with you Dave, would love to have a Cheddars in the area.

Since I work nights/weekends at the MMAC I would love to see something like a Chili's or S and B and a coffee shop open up. Everything on campus closes before I go to work so I am always having to bring lunch. My lunch break is only 30 minutes and having to go to May and back is right around 30 minutes if there isn't a long wait. At least on Portland I will get about 10 minutes and can call ahead at a sit down, or I can pick something up on my way to work.

Walmart is slowing growth of its stores and instead focus on e-commerce. Let's hope OKC has no growth. I don't mind Walmart. We just have enough in OKC.

Nope! I would be on board with that as well! I live off of 119th and half the info I find is by accident because there are either no labels or things get lumped in together with either S OKC or Moore topics. #MakeFarSouthOKC a thing...

    I'll second that 110% #MakeFarSouthOKC a thing!!

I realize to most its a nuisance issue, but for me its frustrating - as a lifelong south-side resident, it drives me *nuts* when someone lumps where I live into the Moore area. Why? Because I don't live in Moore, Never have. That's not a knock on Moore - its just a fact. I realize why it happens - school district overlap, streets, neighborhoods - I get it. Doesn't change the fact that I live in OKC, pay OKC utilities, and vote in OKC municipal elections - not Moore's - any more than I do Edmond.

By the same token, when I see something that says "S. OKC," and open it up - only to find it's something to do with SW 29th (for example) and bears little to no relevance to me, it just hammers home the point.

So, in that vein, ABSOLUTELY, let me throw my support for a #FarSouthOKC subforum. Long overdue IMO.

I'm guessing that new building would be a Panda Expeess just like the one that is in front of the i240 location. As my parents live off 104th and may, I'm really excited to see this area finally coming up. Though they do worry about the increased traffic.

The new building going up in front of WM is a Taco Bell. It's the only exterior site with a building permit at this point other than the credit union.

Hey FWIW I've tossed my support behind a FarSouthOKC forum and tossed the idea to Pete. Obviously he has to assess if its worth the effort and then do all the heavy lifting to make it work so we'll see how it goes, but at least the idea is out there

Thanks for tossing in your hat as well. I agree that everything I click on that is South OKC has to do with areas around SW 29th, SW 44th, or SW 74th.

I have given a bunch of praise for Sam's Club for their technology (Scan & Go is brilliant) and their generally great location at 39th & May (don't care for the others nearly as much).

But, until Winco arrives I still have the need for a regular grocery stores for occasions like Thanksgiving, where I need a little bit of tons of things, many of which I don't buy at any other time.

So, off I go to the Walmart Neighborhood Market on 23rd & Penn. I don't like the store much but it's okay, open 24 hours, has good prices and is a million times better than trying to by groceries at one of their super centers.

I even downloaded their app to help me find these odd items while in the store... And it was a major fail. Nothing was on the right aisle; one aisle number wasn't even found in the store.

I was hoping the NM had taken the same sort of leap as Sam's Club and therefore earning a place in my rotation even with the new options. But without that feature, it's just another big grocery store where it's almost impossible to find small items and there is absolutely no help in finding them.

i didn't know they had an app that helped you with that, i will try that at the 164th and Western store where we shop sometimes. Surprisingly, NM has a few things that are seemingly missing for me at Crest and Homeland, but then of course missing some others.

A building permit request was submitted for a Starbucks at 10515 S. May Ave. It's not by the Wal-Mart but close at least.

interesting... that'd have to be an outparcel of crest and somewhere north of mcdonald's.

Almost has to be right there on the corner?

The permit title says "Starbucks - SW 104th and May" - so yeah, it's probably on that corner north of McDonalds. Personally I don't care which corner they shove it into - I'm just excited to have a starbucks so close!

    Agreed.

I drive by this on a regular basis, but I guess I have completely missed the Taco Bell that looks done now and the Credit Union that is close. Has anything else been announced for this area?

A realtor I know told me that a Petsmart is planned for the parcel of land just North of Walmart - but I don't see any permits and can't find anything in the usual places that would verify that rumor, so .... ya know, grain of salt.

I also noticed in some recent city planning commission docs, that it appears someone is trying to develop everything in this area that isn't owned by Walmart. That could very well be part of what you are talking about, or maybe more to come in general for this area. All I know is that the 4 stop lights in a row aren't synced and it makes it a mess trying to get through this with any speed.

Any big-box retailers in the area other than WM?

Nothing specific currently, but I'd bet at some point there is going to be some.

Good info Zuplar. What do you think will come of the other side of 44, where they have the fancy street lights and nice road already in place???
