Mayor Mick Cornett and Olympic champion Bart Conner announced today Oklahoma City will host the 2007 USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Men’s National Championships May 9-13.
Contested at the Cox Convention Center, more than 800 gymnasts will participate in the eight-session competition.

The Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau expects the event to have an economic impact of $1.5 million.

“After last year’s success with the USA Junior Olympic Women’s National Championships, we felt compelled to try to bring more national and international caliber events to Oklahoma City,” Conner said in a statement. “All of the great U.S. gymnasts have passed through the Junior Olympic competitions and we are thrilled to showcase, once more, the strong gymnastic community we have here in our state.”

Norman’s Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy will serve as a host.

Cornett and Conner made the announcement from The International Gymnastics Hall of Fame’s new home at the Omniplex Science Museum which will open to the public in mid-May.

I didn't know that Okc was the home of the International Gymnastics HOF.

Yes it is. I heard that it will soon be moving from Downtown to the Omniplex and be more kid-friendly. I have never been but will probably go when it moves.

That will be a better location than the basement of First National.
