I hope this place improved since Labor Day. They added oysters, but they didn't have a list of their meats on hand.

i agree about papadeaux, had it at IAH and it was 'o.k.'.

Personally, I thnk bonefish is miles better. I wish OKC could get Bonefish, along with Papas to have some seafood options, along with the Drake leading the way.
    Oklahoma City, the RENAISSANCE CITY!

Would generally agree with this but Texas de Brazil is the real deal.

I must say though, on my last 2 trips to Pappadeaux, I thought it wasn't as good as what I remember. I don't know if its just the location by my house that's slipping or something deeper. But given the fact that there are tons of deep fried gulf coast-style seafood places in OKC I don't really feel it brings anything new to the market. JMO.

The Drake is better than Pappadeaux

I couldn't disagree more, but I'm glad we have options.

I feel like The Drake and Pappadeaux aren't serving the same market. At the very least, Pappadeaux is more bang for buck and could actually get away with sharing.

    I agree with this.

It is not worth comparing the Drake and Pappadeaux and I feel there is a reason that comparison is being made but I'm gonna keep my mouth shut as to not start a flame war. Anyhow, both are great restaurants, but an Oyster Bar and a Cajun Seafood place are just not comparable, imo. I love southern Cajun style food, so naturally I'm going to like Pappadeaux better. I drive to Dallas almost once a week to eat there when I'm here.

I'm glad to see TdB come into the OKC market... though I am somewhat disappointed that they chose to locate at Penn Square Mall. Make no mistake, they'll kill it there - business-wise, it's a good location - but after visiting their location in Memphis, TN in Peabody Place, I had been hoping to see something similar here. The building itself is not that old, but it is in a great urban location in downtown Memphis. I had hoped they could have gone in somewhere in Bricktown, which I feel would have been a great fit, especially given the way they like to decorate the interior of their restaurants.

From NewsOK.com's "Business retail briefs for Dec. 24"

"Brazilian-American Steakhouse coming to Penn Square Mall

Construction is set to begin on a new Texas de Brazil Churrascaria, a Brazilian-American steakhouse restaurant at Penn Square Mall.

Building permits filed with Oklahoma City on Monday show plans for a 6,500 square foot restaurant inside the main mall.

The permits put the cost of construction at $700,000. The Dallas-based chain is also building its first Tulsa location at Woodland Hills Mall.

Both the Oklahoma City and Tulsa locations are set to open in 2016, according to Texas de Brazil's website."

Can anyone get info on the permit? Curious to see if they are taking more space than just the Cantina Laredo.

    Taking just Cantina Laredo.

Confirmed that with the mall this week.

Laredo is closing in January and work will start right after. They are not relocating.

I really wish they were putting the Texas de Brazil somewhere other than the Mall. I love Texas De Brazil but being in the mall makes it far less attractive for me.

Thanks, Pete! On it like always. Merry Christmas!

I'll never forget the first time we went to TDB in Dallas - my kids who were teenagers at the time loved it but my wife was sorta off guard over the entire deal - she normally doesn't eat all that much and will take half of her smallish order home from a normal establishment. Well, TDB hit us for their per person charge and she was bound and determined to eat her money's worth. She probably ate more meat that night than she eats in a month. About killed her....LOL. She loved it and hated it at the same time! We still laugh over that night but have been back to this and similar places and she has learned to temper how much she indulges.

Is this still happening? It doesn't look like they've made much progress.

    Yes.

They have been working on the inside; the windows are darkly tinted and they have them mostly blocked off.

But I was out there a few weeks ago and noticed they have done a lot of demolition.

Took a couple last night, as they are deep into the $700K renovation.

The interior photo is looking from the entrance to the back wall where the salad bar will be.

Also, you can see the plans for the finished space below.

I didn't think that space was very large but the plan shows 132-134 seats plus 15 at bar

Just received an e-mail with a coupon stating that they open tonight.

Stopped by briefly this evening, as today was a bit of a soft opening; no wine or beer or liquor.

Very nice space and smelled *heavenly*. They are absolutely going to murder it here.

Been waiting for one of these in OKC for years! Know what I'm suggesting for our next date night!

BTW, pricing is $42.99 per person; $24.99 for just the salad bar.

Open for dinner only but they said they are considering Sunday brunch down the line.

If you go to their website and sign up for email alerts, you can get a $25 coupon for dinner for 2.
