Thread: Ideas wanted for OKC.gov redesign

Default Ideas wanted for OKC.gov redesign

Need some help from OKCTalkers and those that visit the board. The City is working to redesign OKC.gov and asking for ideas from the community. With participation, we hope to find ways to better deliver online City services to residents and businesses and make the website more informative, intuitive and interactive.

Here is a link to our redesign page on OKC.gov - okc.gov/redesign

    How to share ideas

Thanks for your time and help. If you have any questions or want more information you can email, call or send a message on Twitter: zach.nash@okc.gov, 297-2174, @zachnash.

great idea getting public input! i mainly visit the site to pay my water bill. i'd like to be able to save bank/credit card information so that i don't have to enter it in every month. -M

Thanks for reaching out. Couple thoughts with more elaboration later. I have to run a special "Fusion" software to view meetings or watch live streaming on my Macintosh. Seems that the city only allows viewing using Microsoft Silverlight thus necessitating the Windows compatibility on the Mac.

Having Mac, I-Phone, I-Pad viewing capability would be a huge step for this growing demographic of viewers.

Also, retrieving meeting agendas or minutes pulls up every meeting and seems to not have a filter capability. Very frustrating.

Would love to be able to get docket printouts on the ticket look up service, or even images of the pleadings in municipal cases. That's probably pie in the sky and not on the radar of anyone who doesn't regularly appear in municipal court.

Has anything happened with this? OKC.gov really needs to be redone.

In the http://www.okctalk.com/general-civic...tml#post887468 thread, Zach Nash mentioned that completion of the new website was expected by "early 2016". No clue if that timetable is still accurate, but that was the goal almost a year ago...

I heard from someone at the city that it is 2-3 months away from its debut.

It's definitely in progress with most departments on the content phase. Probably about 2-3 months to go.

Honestly though OKC.gov is one of the best muni websites out there. Very clear and easy to read. You also get kickass thumbnail pics of the OKC skyline circa 2004.

Exactly! I hope they don't screw it up. Too many web sites "upgrade" to something new and more modern looking but lose a lot of function in the process. I hope they get this right.

Looks really good. It was definitely time for an overhaul.

    Yes, huge improvement.

    Great work by Zach Nash.

Site overall looks good. I just got one complaint, I am having a tough time finding an easy way to get to the council agenda's. There are links that intuitively I'd think were it, but never get me there. Of course at this point I may be missing something. Anyway have an idea? I found it by digging into the calendar and clicking links embedded in that which are a pain to get to. Below is what I'm talking about:

    https://agenda.okc.gov/sirepub/meet.aspx

If that is the page you are looking for, I was able to get there on the new site as follows:

Front page, hover over Government and select City Council.
On the right side of that page select Agendas & Minutes.
On that new page select City Council down in the list of meetings.

There should be something on the front page that talks about what outages are occurring. For example, if you're water pressure is non-existent, tell us what's happening.

Yeah that works, but it seems odd to me that the Agendas & Minutes takes you to the same link as the one that just says Agendas. I feel as though the one that says Agendas should take you to the link I provided as those are indeed the agendas. Seems like a simple oversight to me, because no need to have 2 links side by side go to the same page. Maybe if Zach still looks at this thread he will take a look at it, because previously it worked a little better. Overall though site is better.

    Two other portals for this:

    Number one:
Hover over "Government" link. When the mega menu pops up, click on "Meeting Agendas" (far right column).
Then look for the commission or board you have an interest in and click on that.

Same hover-over will get you to the public meeting calendar via the "Public Meeting Calendar" link.

    Number two --
Click on "Public Meetings" link on bottom of page (white text in blue field). This pulls up the meeting calendar.
Click on the Public Meeting you have an interest in.
When the meeting page opens, click on the agenda and minutes link for that meeting.

My point was the "Meeting Agendas" is a duplicate link of "Public Meetings and Agendas" and too me this seems like an error. The "Meeting Agendas" link seems like it should go directly to the list.

Obviously you can get to it multiple way, but with a few more clicks than previously, making it slightly more cumbersome.

They seem to have some really cool features I was unaware they had if they had them before the new update. This interactive map of the trails is one example.

    https://www.okc.gov/departments/park...ils/trails-map

There are several other things as well that I found to be really cool when browsing around.

I'm happy. My biggest concern was that, like many sites, they were going to modernize the look and ruin the flow and function. I've been around it a bit and if anything both improved.

Hello and thanks for the feedback. The reason that the Meetings and Agenda link goes to this page https://www.okc.gov/departments/city-clerk/meetings is because some meetings aren't in our agenda management and minute system, Sire.

Some meetings' agendas are still posted by a single PDF. An example is the first link, Alarm Review Board. We are working to get as many of these in the system, however one roadblock is some of the meetings aren't managed by City staff, such as City-County Health. Those organizations send us their agendas and we post to the list.

We went back and forth how to handle this, but in the end kept the same formatting as the old site. It is organized the same.

We will continue to listen and find ways to improve the flow of information.

Glad you mentioned the new datasets. In addition to the trail map, we've also uploaded all 2007 GO Bond projects.

Here is a comprehensive map: https://www.okc.gov/departments/publ...roject-updates. You can also find a breakdown of projects by type at http://data.okc.gov.

If the map isn't showing up tonight (5/17/16 at 9:08 p.m.) check back tomorrow. We are working out a few kinks.
