Thread: Rayo OKC

  1. Default Re: Rayo OKC

The quality of this team is going to be pretty high. I really don't want to go to Yukon though. Any other way I can watch these games?

Interesting, just curious, what are your concerns about Yukon?

It's 25 minutes away from me and Taft is about 6.

Ditto for me. Yukon is a fine town, if you live out west.

Much will depend on your preference (view & knowledge) of the game. Taft is close to the heart of OKC vs. Yukon which is on the outskirts.

I'll plan to attend both the NASL & USL soccer matches in OKC area. Sometimes being close comes with traffic congestion; it can also be a vice if you don't know how to get in and out of Yukon.

Plan to enjoy our two competitive organizations.

A thinly veiled slam at Taft...?

It's easy to find Yukon, but it's far out there. Even Taft isn't great for those on the eastern sides of the metro.

NASL was on ESPN3 last season...dunno about this one or if local games are blacked out.

Nope. All games SHOULD be on ESPN 3. There should be an announcement soon about a local TV package, as well

Well we know that KSBI has team up with Energy FC this year so i doubt that it will be on KSBI.

I am within walking distance of Taft and I will happily drive past it to Miller to watch Rayo OKC. Last new member of the SG that signed up lives in Midwest City.

Don't think we'll limit ourselves to the proximity of Taft or Miller stadiums when it comes to soccer. We're not talking about our neighborhood pub or bodega.

The NASL & the USL can co-exist in the Oklahoma City metro area which has potential that is grossly underestimated.

Impressed with the NASL's marketing strategy to tap into the Latino base.

Sold Out Strategies' co-owner & operator Brad Lund knows the metropolitan OKC sports market. His experience will be a valuable marketing commodity to get NASL Rayo OKC off the starting block.

Six or 16 miles will not deter soccer fans; Rayo OKC will be defined by the product it puts on the field of play.

True soccer fans know quality soccer, you can't mask that with give-aways & gimmicks.

Given the distances some folks I know travel for Thunder, Sooner, Cowboys, and even high school events, seeing folks within the greater metro lament the distance to Yukon, or even consider it to be some distant place, is a bit astounding to me. And sheesh, I am a freaking hermit.

Well all of those teams are legitimate pro or very large uni, and hometown teams. This is a minor league that will change its roster pretty much every year. Not something to get too excited about, tbh.

That's wonderful. I also don't have a grudge against the Energy like you do.

From Miller Stadium to downtown is exactly 15 minutes, as long as I-40 is moving.

Saw a report today that NASL games will be broadcast nationally/internationally on BeIN Sport. Also still waiting for the official announcement of the local TV deal for Rayo OKC.

Still doesn't discount the FACT that it would have been MUCH better if Rayo was playing in the Southside of OKC - where the Latin population has critical mass density and the city overall could benefit. It also would be nice to throw the Southside a bone sometimes so they can have some things local.

I agree it is good to spread things out to the metro but I just dont think OKC is there YET as we first need to get the market built in the city.
    Oklahoma City, the RENAISSANCE CITY!

The only concern with the southside of OKC is C.B. Speegle Stadium; its seating capacity is slightly less than 3,000.

The smallest NASL stadium is FC Edmonton's Clarke Stadium with a capacity of 5,000. Rayo OKC will play in Miller Stadium which has a minimum seating capacity of 6,500; expandable to 11,000.

    NASL stadiums:

Ottawa Fury FC, TD Place Stadium - 24,000
Puerto Rico FC, Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium - 22,000
Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Lockhart Stadium - 20, 450
Miami FC, FIU Stadium - 20,000
New York Cosmos, James M. Shuart Stadium - 11,929
Jacksonville Armada FC, Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville - 11,000
    Indy Eleven, Michael A. Carroll Stadium - 10, 524
Carolina RailHawks, WakeMed Soccer Park - 10,000
Minnesota United FC, National Sports Center - 8,500
Tampa Bay Rowdies, Al Lang Stadium - 7,500
Rayo OKC, Miller Stadium - 6,500
FC Edmonton, Clarke Stadium - 5,000

    Soccer specific stadiums

This, more than anything else, is the reason they won't be playing at Speegle. There are minimum standards in NASL and, unfortunately, it doesn't meet them.

Latest members of Rayo OKC's inaugural squad.
Great having Mamadou Danso, also known as "Footy".
PTFC! Love having former Timbers on the team :-)
And with Yuma being here from Rayo Vallecano, that means RVdM have already sent us as many players (before the season even begins) as Sporting KC sent to the energy all last season. :-)
