The Sushi Bar

There is currently a location in Edmond. It's very good sushi by Oklahoma standards. This will be much welcome.
Key word being 'Oklahoma standards'.
My wife and I used to frequent the location at NW 178th and Western and their food is excellent. We usually go for lunch and get the chicken katsu bento box (miso soup, chicken katsu, salad with ginger/sesame dressing, two fried gyoza with dipping sauce, steamed rice and half an orange). Their sushi rolls are really good but can be inconsistent in their quality. Their weekend half-price sushi hours is a great deal although the noise levels easily approach those of a club so we quit going at night.
I would rate The Sushi Bar as my favorite place for sushi rolls but their nigiri sushi loses out to Nhinja, another OKC based restaurant.
Getting quality sushi isn't easy in a landlocked state unless you have a higher-end restaurant that has it flown in fresh. Fortunately OKC has a few choices but only a few and you have to pay for it. The Sushi Bar is above the norm for OKC. I really like their rolls but go elsewhere for the nigiri. Can't say I recommend Nhinja though. The best fresh sushi I've had here is from Tokyo in Nichols Hills.
I suppose I will have to try this place (and Tokyo)! Didnt realize there were other locations of the Sushi Bar, and havent really found a place I really like around here that is reasonably priced. How are their prices?
I used to go to Sumo quite often years ago when Andon (of Nani fame) was one of the Sushi chefs there. His sushi creations somehow make you forget you are actually in a land locked state, haha.
It's pretty reasonable. Definitely less than Neko.
I think there are two Pete, the one that is already there and then one that is going a little farther west on memorial.
I remember its application from back in June and thought it was interesting to put two so close to each other https://www.okc.gov/AgendaPub/cache/...5105230101.PDF
Plans are now shown in the article at the top of the page.
The owners live very close to the original location (maybe about 2 miles away, max) and they may just be staying in their comfort zone as far as locations. The Memorial corridor at west is booming so it seems like a safe bet. I will be interested in seeing the decor of the new restaurant. I generally don't pay much attention to the physical surroundings in a restaurant but the original location on 178th & Western is so tastefully decorated and furnished that it actually entices me to spend more time there.
Making good progress here:

can't wait for this....favorite sushi in town, just hate driving to Edmond to eat there. I am praying the quality transfers to the new spot
I drove by Sunday evening and they looked very open to me. I haven't been by since. I may have to check it out sometime soon.
I drive by it nearly every day, and being open would be new to me. I want it to be open though. I liked their other location, and they're late on the deadline as is.
They are open... Spoke to a friend who recently ate there.
Said the food was very good but they still had work to do inside. Very odd they would open before the interior was finished.
Very odd that the health inspector would clear their building permit for certificate of occupancy. And my favorite new-ish $500-$1500 city tax for bars and restaurants certificate of compliance.
Getting very good reviews:

I'd hope so, their 178th (or around there) got good reviews too
We are regulars at the Western & NW 178th location and love the place. We are foodies and generally couldn't care less about decor but the original location is so nice that we have decided it's the first place where the decor actually added to our enjoyment of the meal. We'll have to check out the new location.
Stopped for a quick lunch today.
The have not installed their booths yet so just a bunch of tables scattered in the middle of a big room. Also, nothing out on the patio on the east side.
But service was prompt and helpful and my lunch bento box was good but I'll order some of their rolls next time.
I would highly recommend the chicken katsu bento box. It's pretty much all we order off the non-sushi menu.
