Thread: General Weather Discussion - Feb 2016

System coming through Sunday into Monday looks to be insignificant, hopefully we can squeeze out some moisture to help keep things from being too bone dry out here.

Looking ahead, there is a possibility of upper 70s and low 80s over much of the state late next week.

Are there still signs of the high pressure ridge breaking down in a few weeks or do I need to tune up the lawn mower already?

It's too early for that crap.....

Last night I opened my door at night and several mosquitoes, and moths came in. I woke up this morning to a wasp in my office. It is way too early for bugs. I hate the cold but wouldn't mind a few days of freezing weather to kill them off.

Not as promising as it looked last week. Still some signs of pattern change towards end of Feb, but as of right now the ridge is definitely saying "Spring time!"

Oklahoma is still totally free of drought as of Feb. 9. Most of the eastern 3/4s of the USA is that way.

Yes but the vegetation around the state is like a powder keg right now.... Low humidity and wind are the main ingredients in the recipe for a fire disaster.

As Oklahoma warms, I'm growing more and more excited about the upcoming tornado season. I don't like when the twisters hit populated areas, so please don't color me as sick and cold-hearted. I just happen to love the excitement of tornados and the broadcasts they generate, the wild temperature swings, and the vibrant green that comes from all of the rain that we get in April and May.

And this year, I'm especially thankful that fuel prices are hovering below $1.50 per gallon. That condition will allow me to travel further and with less guilt for tapping into my fuel budget for such ventures. Do any of you chase?

I chase from the tornados' southwest, but I don't attempt to intercept like others.
...this shortest straw has been pulled for you

Red Flag Warning for essentially the entire state today. Gusts from 40-50 with near 80F temps in February.

Next precip. chance looks to be around this coming Tuesday/Wednesday. Right now it looks like rain, but will monitor because cold air won't be far away.

Not me. Tornado season is probably my least favorite thing about living in Oklahoma. Last year had the third most tornadoes in OK history so hopefully this year is a little quieter.

I understand completely what you are saying and don't think you are a sicko or anything. But, we lost our house in the May 3, 1999 tornado and our lives were devastated for a couple of years after. Tornadoes ultimately cause damage somewhere and change peoples lives when the do. In no way can that be perceived as a positive.

Not sure I even understand what he's thinking to be quite honest. I don't get how anyone can hope for the excitement of tornadoes knowing what kind of heartbreak and destruction they can and have done. Sorry, but it makes no sense to me.

Or why he felt the need to announce his excitement on a message board where there are bound to be many who have been negatively impacted by tornadoes (I am one of those). Rule no. 1: Know your audience.

To be fair... He gave his reasons for being excited, none of which included destruction of homes and lives that the rest of you are associating with his post.

I'm fine with his reasons, just think he should think twice about where he shares his excitement.

freaking wind was ridiculous today, unfortunately right behind my house is the next phase of my development, which is currently just a flat piece of red dirt exposed land, which now has taken over parts of my house, got in the house through doors and windows today. none too please with this 10 month old home

Been a week since this post, and confidence is growing in pattern shift.

March may be the return of winter for much of the plains.

Yeah...March is the month that comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. I would be very surprised if the first half of the month isn't wintry. It usually always is.

I don't think you can use those two words together... at least not correctly.

Had to turn on the house a/c today. Not sure if I've ever done it this early!

Stay tuned over the next few days.

^^big precip day has a high of 54° on my phone app. That backside precip will dry out or float further north. Just the way the cookie crumbles this winter.

The same GFS run shows total accumulation as of the 25th to be an inch or less and only in northern OK. Maybe it will do something and maybe it won't. That's Oklahoma.
