Well they were popular with me but from what Dave wrote about it today... not so much with other patrons.... And I can only assume Dave Cathey had a reliable source.

Restaurant sibilia at 3202 nw 23rd has really, seriously, make your head roll back, amazing pupusas. I've never seen another white person in there, it's kind of a secret, not even a google map pin. The kitchen is open and clean. It sees dinner rush really early as its base is very blue collar. I believe it shuts at 8pm. There's a language barrier. They're salvadorian so my Mexican Spanglish doesn't pass. But they're really sweet about it. Just point, pay, and enjoy.

Kacao has pupusas as specials sometimes. I've had them on a Sunday twice. Not as good as the ones at Chiltepe's.

Ate dinner at Chiltepes last thursday, they still had the papusas and menu with some Guatemalan dishes. Though their menu has changed since they first opened.
The link to the menu at the top of this page looks broken.

    From Dave Cathey today...

Chiltepe's Latin Grill is now Chiltepe's Taco Joint. I can only assume the authentic Guatemalan cuisine wasn't resonating with diners, which is a shame. The food was unique and terrific. The new menu is similar to other city offerings. That said, other places aren't located in the heart of the Plaza District, outfitted with a full bar and some of the best patio seating in the city.

That's unforntunate. We only went there once and the only thing that blew us away was the pupusas. I was planning to come back strictly for that alone. Also, I have had the pupusas at Taco Sibilia on 23rd, and I dont remember them being anything special. Their tacos didn't impress me either; I remember thinking Hugo's was much better. Only been there a couple of times though. So, where else can we get pupusas in OKC? This talk is getting me hungry.

I may be in the minority here, but I actually really like the changes they've made. I went there once during the summer for lunch and wasn't impressed with the food or the service. When they announced the new concept change, I decided to give them another try. I live in Crestwood and work at the Capitol, so having a place to go for lunch besides the usual Plaza District spots is ideal as well as a place to go for south of the border takeout after work.

So, my original plan was to go to Empire for lunch. The wait would've been 20 minutes so I figured now was as good a time to give Chiltepe's another go. First off, at least for lunch anyway, you now order and pay up front before taking a seat (like GoGo Sushi). Before, it was a typical sit and order situation. The new way is MUCH better for lunch patrons who are on a tight schedule. As opposed to Empire, there was no wait. I ordered, had my food in minutes and was out of there in timely fashion. The prices were fair and the food was good, nothing amazing, but solid tex-mex fare. I had a taco/enchilada combo plate but the menu still has their more popular Guatemalan dishes.

I'm excited to have this place back in my lunch rotation and now I'm curious to try their happy hour and dinner takeout. I don't think it's quite worth driving in from the other side of town, but if you live and/or work in the area, it's a solid choice especially for lunch.

    Thanks for the report.

Sounds promising. I'll give them another try soon.

They still have papusas, and a few of the old Guatemalan dishes. This seems like a solid, refocused menu.

Thank you! That is great. The Pepian de Pollo is especially delicious. Papusas are very tasty too.

Well good to see they still have the papusas and pollo rostizado.... Those were the two dishes I mainly went for... I'll make a trip over there this week and get my papusa fix. =+)

I was about to make a joke about how we on this board tend to go off half-cocked on incomplete info, but after reading upthread I blame Dave Cathey.

Been there a handful of times the last few months, most recently a couple weeks ago. Showed no sign of closing up shop. Their taco Tuesday night is a favorite of ours.

Also have been there several times recently. They now have fishbowl style margaritas the the food is as good as ever. Hopefully the website domain just lapsed and they are not going anywhere.

Chiltepes has went back to table service and abandoned the new concept of ordering at the counter. I personally prefer it as a table service place but love the food and will do whatever for the Papusas!

I walked by here a few days ago around lunch time and didn't see any activity and also saw a realtor sign in the front. I assume it has closed? Seemed like such a good addition to the neighborhood. Or maybe they own the building and can sell it for a mint?

I know the realtor sign has been on the front for a while (at least a couple of months if my memory is correct). Went a week and a half ago, or so, hopefully it hasn't closed in the meantime! Also a big fan but I suppose you can't blame them for wanting to cash in on the Plaza District's resurgence.

I ate there last Sunday. It is definitely slow (business wise) but was also definitely open as of 5 days ago.

Stopped by tonight to grab a slice at Empire and noticed the lights were out at Chiletepes. Their google listing also shows its permanently closed.
