Thread: Patio Awning - General Contractor

Default Patio Awning - General Contractor

I'm looking to cover my back patio, either build something like a pergola or maybe even a solid covering. I was curious if anyone had any recommendations? I'm guessing most general contractors do this, but I think someone that specializes in this area might be even better so they can maybe help me with the design of what would look best as well as function best for what I'm wanting. Thanks in advance for the help.

Let's try this, is there someone I shouldn't use. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to publicly throw someone under the bus.

I had very good luck with Green Okie. They just built my outdoor kitchen/living room and pergola. I was very specific in what I wanted done, and although I had my design well planned...they still came with additional suggestions, with an engineer and designer. They came out, and measured, several times and then produced high resolution, 3D/CAD rendering of what the finished product would look like. it was a significant project...and from start to finish it was completed in just under 2 weeks. (10 days) They have now built 4 other Pergolas in my neighborhood...so, they definitely have a ringing endorsement from us.

Here's the website....... Green Okie - Oklahoma Western Red Cedar Pegolas

Welp, I checked out their site and really liked their work. Gave them a call to schedule an appointment and they said they'd call back. Been a week and a half and still haven't heard. Guess they don't want my money.

So I wanted to update this thread and let everyone know I ended up going with Green Okie, and they finished my Pergola last week. I ended up calling them back after I hadn't heard from anyone and they were apologetic. I remember I talked with the owner the first time and when he questioned who I spoke with I told him actually it was you. They were real professional and ended up coming right out that day since I was off and got me renderings by the end of the week. All the other companies basically refused to come out and even discuss and help me design. Not sure if they thought I wasn't serious or what. They wanted me to tell them exactly what I wanted, which I didn't really know, I just had ideas. I was kind of under the impression that most helped design, but I found that very much not to be the case.

So to sum it up Green Okie might be one of the most professional contractors I've worked with, with the exception of the first call, which at this point I think is a fluke for how I got treated after. The crew was fantastic, quick, and all made sure to introduce themselves and give a complete rundown on the process and all steps along the way. I'm sure they aren't the cheapest, but it's quite apparent in their quality that you get what you pay for. They come highly recommended from me.

I'm glad they took care of you. I definitely wouldn't have recommended them if they hadn't gone over an beyond to take care of me. (So, I was somewhat surprised/embarrassed to hear they didn't call you back at first after making the recommendation to you.) It's amazing how much more time we spend outside, with our new outdoor space. There were a few Saturdays during this College football season, where I went outside...started my morning with College Gameday.....and a few cases of cold beer. About 12 hours later...after grilling steaks, pounding beer, and watching 4 or 5 football games throughout the day....I stumbled back into the house and passed out!! Cant wait until March/April for Thunder playoff games, so I an do it all over again.

Yes, I imagine that this will be me during the summer, which means I will be adding a TV. Just trying to figure out exactly how I'm going to do it, although I don't imagine it's going to be very hard. I'm real glad I gave Green Okie a second chance though, so I do appreciate the recommendation. Like I said I think it was just a fluke I slipped through the crack, and they more than made up for it.

So here are their renderings first, to give an idea of the process:

And the final product. Not the best pictures, but my wife took them. A lot bigger than I expected, but that's by no means a bad thing IMO:
