I've found one thing that always makes a frosty mug of root beer taste better: pour it out and then refill it with literally ANY other beverage.

I haven't had a soft drink other than root beer since the early 70's. I just don't care for sweets, but I love Coit's root beer and I suspect I would enjoy Pop's as well. Sorry Urbanized, you are outnumbered. As Martin said, "Get Out".

p.s. Pete should ban you from this thread! And yes, I'm just hassling you.
You people are crazy. Root beer is straight nasty.
I'm down with a saraparilla. Just don't make me drink your root beer. Or even smell it. That said, I inexplicably like root beer flavored candy.
huh... to my unrefined palate, most root beers and sarsaparillas taste pretty close to the same. i'd say that most of the sarsaparillas i've tried have had a bit more of an 'herbal' quality to them but are still much the same flavor profile as root beer.
not to stray too far off topic but checked out 'stockyards sarsaparilla' last weekend and they have a great selection of sodas.
Creme soda ftw!
My son loves going to Pops and we normally go to Arcadia. The place is really getting rough. The last two times we’ve went the food has continuously declined in quality. The chicken fried steak is now just a warmed/ flash fried frozen piece of pre breaded meat. French fries were cold and rubbery, my wife’s burger was tiny and the meat had no taste. None of the kids working had hardly any work ethic or seemed to care much.
The bathrooms were gross and many fixtures were torn up. The gorgeous glass shelves the soda sits on didn’t look like they’d been cleaned in ages. And I know it’s gotta be hard to clean those but when you eat inches from them try to at least dust them occasionally.
It just really stinks to see a neat destination place decline in quality. And we went on a Sunday afternoon the place was really busy. No excuse for cold food.
I think Good Egg managed the place or the food side at least for a while maybe they should partner back up for a while.
I was wondering about that as well but didn't know how involved with Pops he was.
I strongly suspect that Aubrey financially subsidized them, i.e. guaranteed a certain spending level regardless of income. That was pretty much his m.o.
Now, they have to stand on their own feet and I know the NH Plaza location has been quite slow for a while.
When I lived out that way, and my wife had a business in Arcadia, it was always our understanding that Pop's was Aubrey's wife's deal. He ran Arcadia Farms, She ran Pop's, although that may sound oversimplified. Not sure how it's ran these days.
It was named for Aubrey’s dad and I don’t think it was in any way Aubrey’s wife’s project. She never ran it.
Sadly pop's has been declining for a few years. One of our yearly Christmas traditions is that on the day after Thanksgiving we all load up, go to the sorghum mill Christmas tree farm, cut down our tree for the year, and then drive to pop's for lunch. The last two years we hit pop's for drinks and candy only then eat somewhere else because their food and service had gotten so bad. Sad deal.
Maybe we could get Pops to let Jabbar do the burgers. Lipsmackers has the burgers and Pops has the locations. They need each other.
Did anybody get the burgers on a day that wasn't tuesday?
