Yeah I don't think the hospital is open yet, it's a pretty massive project, and hospitals are super complex on the interior. Drove by the Cabela's today and it's taking shape like the pictures above indicate, but it looks like a super small footprint for a Cabela's.

I think their average store size is around 85,000. This was announced to be 90-98,000.

The store in Buda, Texas (south of Austin) is 185,000 sf but not too long after that one was built they announced they were going to go to build smaller locations instead of the huge megastores and 85-100K is what they are building for the most part now. They have the store sizes listed on the website. Here are the stores in the region.

    Arkansas
    Rogers - 8/2012: 100,000 sf

    Colorado
    Grand Junction - 5/2010: 70,000 sf

    Kansas
    Kansas City - 8/2002: 170,000 sf
    Wichita - 3/2012: 80,000 sf

    Missouri
    Hazelwood (StL) - 4/2007: 130,000 sf

    Texas

This will be a place to check out when down in OKC for a weekend. Definitely looking forward to seeing this Chisolm Creek finishing out.

I know Pitch Perfect has done cross promotion with a makeup company, they should've done the same with Cabela's.

Brianna's update on the grand opening on Sept. 17th along with a video interview with Joshua Stratton, who is the retail marketing manager.

Went to the Grand Opening last night just for something to do. Lot smaller store than the other ones I've been in but very nice. Lot of people there last night even at 8:30pm when I went.

I went last night in their last hour of operation for the day. Don't get me wrong, nice store, but dear lord do they not sell any other brands besides Cabela's? I like Columbia gear (thank God for the Columbia store in the Outlett Shoppes) and their lack of men's clothing options was horrible. Hiking shoes...Merrell, Keen & Under Armor. That was it...besides Cabela's.

I know it's probably a rights agreement or lack thereof but that's why I can't wait for REI. So many more clothing options and brands to choose from.

I've checked it out a couple times since the opening. It is smaller than other stores I've been to, but its nice to have a place like this and not have to drive all the way down into Bricktown.

Then news about the potential sale of Cabela's got me reminiscing about another failed sporting goods store that was located on Memorial Rd. What was the name of the sporting goods retailer that used to occupy the building that currently houses Gold's Gym? TIA.

One of the very first "bigger" sports retail chain I recall in OKC was, I think, "Hibbett Sports" (sp). Don't know if it was the one on Memorial, tho. They had a location on I-240/I-35 by Crossroads that later became BestBuy. THey were pretty cool in that they sold a bunch of really unusual stuff - they actually had basketball scoreboards - actual, fix-digit scoreboards like you'd see in a small gym - on display. Don't see that in an Academy or Dicks'

It was Sportsman's Warehouse and I miss it a lot... They carried a lot of fishing items that I was never able to find other places... Especially since I'm an ultralight enthusiast and their ultralight lure selection was amazing... They also had an incredible cooking equipment selection.

If Cabela is purchased by Bass Pro, would both OKC stores stay open? This may be an excellent opportunity to redevelop that part of Lower Bricktown if Bass Pro decides to consolidate everything to the new Cabelas location.
