    that location

When it was Budda Tao, we went one night where there was the rock band that plays behind you while you sing karaoke. For the life of me I can't remember what they were called, but would love to find them somewhere again.

Was originally Don Pablo's Mexican Restaurant, then Buddha Tao, then Dan O'Briens, then whatever....now this.

Went there Friday night. Pretty cool atmosphere, good music (not too loud) and very friendly staff. I loved the pulled pork sandwich, which was big enough for me to take half of it home for leftovers. Nice beer selection too (including several COOP varieties). We'll definitely be back.

In my short time back, I've become a big fan of COOP, particularly the Native Amber.

I've had that several times too and really like it but I need to check the alcohol content because it makes me a bit loopy.

    And there's my answer.

    I knew it was strong.

As far as I know it's (still) the highest ABV of any beer brewed in the state. But DNR isn't something you can just sit and drink like Native Amber. That is pretty much a one and done beer, and while the first one is delicious you sortof feel like you need to bring a lunch pail and punch the clock for subsequent servings. It turns into work.

Pete, if you like Native Amber (which is my favorite beer, period, not just my favorite local), you should also try Roughtail 12th Round.

Prairie bomb is 13% and a lot of their small batches reach into 14-15% territory. You gotta treat it like wine. 2 pints of DNR equates to a bottle of Cabernet.

Ah...didn't know PB was so high. Yeah, DNR should be served like Chimay. Never in a pint glass.

Yeah, DNR is definitely a "sipping" beer, not a session beer. Two is my usual limit, with a glass of water in between. Friday, I had one DNR and decided that was all I wanted. Besides, I was curious about a Omission Lager, a gluten-free beer that I'd spotted on the menu and wanted to give it a try (didn't care for it).

I had a friend who was drinking with me one night and I had recommended we try one of the imperial stouts at TapWerks that I think were around 14%. Despite my warnings, he slammed four like they were low-point Buds. He didn't last long.

BTW, I recommend the COOP Octoberfest too if you like the style.

Dang, we need to get a beer club started on the site.

Here's a couple pics from Friday night:

Probably the curse of that poorly laid out building.
I drive by this location almost daily, and they seem to have made massive changes in the layout. Will be interesting to see inside. Hopefully traffic at this business will increase traffic at the Infernos Pizza next door, also.

A lot of the Prairie brews are super potent. Elk Valley has an imperial stout that if I am remembering correctly is around 10-11%

I've been buying the COOP Octoberfest quite a bit lately. Pretty solid.
The Anthem Ogletoberfest is pretty good as well. I'm actually a big fan of Anthem. Really like their Urobouros Stout, Golden One, and the Powerhouse Pils isn't bad for a pilsner.

As for the local beers, Anthem is quickly becoming my favorite.

So what's the verdict? Does it thrive? I can honestly say nothing about the menu or theme gets me revved up to drive to memorial. Not with such quality offerings like bikinis, twin peaks, hudsons, BJ's, hooters, wait did hooters close? I hear if sports and frozen drinks with tiny beers dunked into them is up your alley they do decent pizza at inferno's. I gues something is better than the revolving door of the cursed space.

Uptowner, when you mention quality offerings, like Bikinis, Twin Peaks, and Hooters, I have to wonder what your priorities are. LOL

It was a faint attempt at sarcasm. But the scuttlebutt is: bubba's closed and will rebranded a wing place. Now let's get the patchouli oiled tatted and pierced paseo babes serving them on sustainable bamboo paper wearing their raciest sack cloth 2 piece outfits! That would be hilarious and probably outrageously successful. Free range gluten/hormone free with vegan alternatives. Omg I'm a genius!

Did Gene Simmons make it to the opening night?

  22. Default Re: Rock & Brews

Bikinis burned some time ago and never re-opened. No big loss, not that I was fundamentally opposed to the concept. It just seemed a bit on the icky side. I'm not so evolved that I would complain if women WILLINGLY parade around in bikinis; just please don't do it so close to my lunch.

Do you have to wear an Affliction shirt to get in?

Didn't notice any, but I think you could wear whatever you feel that others won't be too judgmental about, if that's a huge concern for you. I did see some people dressed up in full KISS makeup and regalia. Then again, it was the night before Halloween.
