Thread: Koco

    Default Koco

Why is their signal so awful? I live in Yukon and can get every OKC station without break ups at all. But then trying to watch KOCO is horrible.

They have the least transmitter power (65.7 kw, versus up to 1,000 for some of its rivals). Some of this is offset by being on a lower actual channel. (The channel numbers you know are virtual: the actual channels being used are different. 5 is on 7, 4 on 27, 9 on 36.)

There is truth in what you say. They run a lower power because they are on VHF 7. The higher UHF channels require much more power to have an equal coverage area.

I live 35-40 miles east of the city and KOCO is my best signal. Go figure lol

Maybe KOCO is required to have a directional signal, so isn't strong out your way. In Stillwater, just under 50 miles away, KOCO doesn't come in good with an unpowered rabbit ears with hoop antenna, unless you position the antenna just right and can raise the antenna high enough above the TV. The majority of the other OKC TV channels come in fine without as much fuss. However, in the lower lying areas, such as from the strip south (Washington St.), it may be more difficult to get decent reception using an indoor antenna.

Yes, by far KOCO was the worst for me. After a couple years of that nonsense and having those indoor antennas visible in different areas of their respective walls, I went all in and purchased a couple Mohu Sky antennas and mounted them on a crossbeams in my attic. To connect them I just cut the Cox cable that went from the attic down inside the wall to the outlet and connected them to the antenna. It was totally worth the few hours it took me to do it.

The smaller TV in the kitchen I have for my DW is antenna only. Powered rabbit ear type and I always have to move it about to get KOCO.
