Thread: New Motorcycle Thread

So on the subject of motorcycles... Bricktown Parking. I've noticed that bikes are parking in Front of Harkins in the loop... is this legit MC parking or is it a "park and hope you don't get ticketed" scenario?

Besides this, the only official motorcycle parking I've seen in Bricktown is in front of Hudsons. Any others?

The parking in front of the United Way fountain is sporadically enforced. It's technically not parking of any kind other than for attended vehicles. Sometimes you'll find a cop who takes it serious. Most of the time it's left alone. If there are other bikes there at the time you roll up, I'd say it's probably OK. Other than the spaces that you mention in front of Hudson's there are some two blocks east, same side of Sheridan in front of ACM@UCO Performance Lab/Circus/Purple Martini/Wormy Dog Saloon.

Beautiful day to be out scootin' yesterday. Spent a couple hours just putting around town.

It was a bit/a lot windy this weekend, but I still had a blast riding around Overholser and up 66 to El Reno on my new-to-me FZ6.

I got mine out and realized my rear brake wasn't working. I have fluid in the MC so this weekend I'm going to bleed the rear brakes and inspect my lines to see if that's the problem.

Could be a sticking caliper, or stuck/ leaking piston in MC. The bleed should tell you right away. You can pop your caliper off and make sure it's activating as it should. Always a good idea to remove calipers periodically anyway and clean and check the pins and bushings. Make sure they slide as they should. Lot of crud can build up in there causing calipers to hang up. ... Are pads good?

Pad are good so I'm starting with the cheapest check first before I start replacing stuff.

I know what it's like having to miss a ride because of tech issues; my GN has creative ways of making me push her home. So far so good with the FZ, though. *knock on wood*

Me too. Mine's down right now with some issue in the fuel system. Instead of trying trial and error I just sent the injectors off for a real cleaning and testing and ordered pretty much everything else from the fuel pick-up to the fuel block. It's 11 years old and I know the previous owner let it sit for a while. I figure it's due.

I've only been riding about a year, but I've found that having a classic bike for a year has driven me to nearly as many headaches as did my '74 Super Beetle, which I owned for 13 years. Right now I'm waiting on my newly-ordered multimeter to come in so I can diagnose a starting failure and determine if I need a new relay or a new starter motor. Fun stuff.

Had a great ride in to work this morning; the air was perfectly crisp.

I probably need to do that to mine too. It needs a good going over but don't want to take it to the dealer.

The biggest blessing in my life is the ability to work on just about anything. It might kill me to take anything to a shop.

If it's something major I take it in, other wise I work on it and YouTube is a blessing for how to videos.

Same here. I used to do just about everything on my street bikes except for tires and major engine work like splitting cases and top end work. On the dirt bikes I did tires and top end work as well. Back in the day, pulling, cleaning and syncing banks of multiple carbs, pulling fork tubes and clutches was normal behavior. ....

Times change.... I kind of miss it.

I used to be able to work on my car but not anymore

I can't work on sh*t. I'm at the forefront of that doomed generation that was never taught to do anything manly and didn't really realize it until I was in my 30s.

Nah, I'll just YouTube it. Plus, I don't need to know how to do things, I just need to shoot the guy that does know how to do things (after he's done them). Zombie apocalypse survival isn't about being the most resourceful; it's about killing the most resourceful and taking their resources.

Haha you think YouTube will be around and Internet will be available after the zombie apocalypse...you are so, SO screwed...LOL

Good point about shooting people though. You've gotta do what you've gotta do.

The YouTube quip was a joke, of course. I've seen enough Doomsday Preppers and The Walking Dead to know that telecom is the first thing to go.

I really want to get an old kickstart bike that can run without a battery; in the event that our apocalypse is caused by an EMP, the man on the kickstart thumper is king. Though the same effect can be had by building a faraday cage and keeping your bike in it.

    Kelroy,
After replacing the water pump, thermostat, and hoses on my 1967 Pontiac Catalina, the overheat light continued to come on. I took it to a mechanic and he replaced the sending unit for about $10. I had spent $70 and a lot of time. I decided at that time, leave it to the experts. I was a decent computer guy, not a mechanic.

But C. T., you got under the hood and did it. And that Pontiac had loads of room to move around in. Today's auto techs rely on the computer and analyzer to tell them what to do. In today's world, these guys are great, and much needed. But park that Pontiac with it's Rochester Quadrajet , breaker point ignition and voltage regulator in front of them, and they start looking up the old timers to show them the way around the engine bay.

BUT.... on the flip side. I can handle the minor things and maintenance on my late model pickup, but if the check engine light comes on, and it starts throwing out codes, if it's something more than a loose gas cap, then today's guys are the ones I go to to figure it out.... And they're good at it.

That's like surviving a bear attack is to be faster than the guy with you.

Right. You don't have to outrun the bear; just outrun your friend.
