Health Science Center OMRF building 8 story tower

    OMRF Tower
    Location
: Between the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation's current facility at 825 NE 13th and NE 15th Street.
    Progress: Fundraising phase
Details: OMRF, one of the leading research foundations in the US (the 2nd-fastest growing in the nation) is going to expand yet again with a $125 mil 8-story tower. This will allow OMRF to add 50 principal investigators and another 500 employees. The rendering is for a 6-story design. The design will be the same (albeit the poor quality of the rendering) but they opted to add another 2 stories, making the building 8 stories.

Great news, ugly building design though., looks similar to the Oklahoma History Museum

It matches their current building though. At least they are consistent. Have you seen UCO's campus?

$125 million for that??? OU built the beautiful National Weather Center for only $70 million, why the high cost for such a drab building?

It will be good to see some moderate height though at the Health Center, with the OU Cancer Center going up next year at 7 stories.

The National Weather Center has a lot of office space. This will be mostly high-tech lab space. And like I said, the rendering is of the utmost poorest quality but it was the only one I had saved on my hard drive. Sorry. The minute I come across a better one I'll post it in here.

It's nice to see people using my development resource.

Oh and the OU Cancer Center is already under construction, in case you didn't know that. And I think it will actually be 8 stories, or, at least that's how many I count in that rendering.

^ OU Cancer is not under construction, and is still in a design phase. I work at Benham and they are still finalizing the design with HOK out of Kansas City. The rendering we've all seen is prelim. and will not be the final design.

They have to design it to be a vibration-free building, which I'm sure is very costly. That was in an article somewhere.

They turned some dirt with shovels. The parking lot where it will sit is still being used for parking.

Vibrations can't be good for the incubators whatchamacallits in those labs.

Was there another OU medical project anounce yesterday. I thoght that I caught the end of a news story on Channel 5. I saw David Boren in front of a large group and thought that they were talking about a new state of the art diabetes center for the OU medical campus.

We won't see this move ground till late '08. We're still waiting on Congressmen Dan Boren to bring in some federal funding for this project.

But it would be nice to see credit given when the information is quoted directly without a link... OkMet is a news resource like any other, after all...
